This scrapbook, kept by Samuel S. Waters (RPI Class of 1917) contains newspaper clippings, grade cards, tuition receipts, and photographs from Waters' time as a student at Rensselaer. Some of the photos show Waters surveying for an engineering class, the Push Ball Rush, and Waters with various friends. Also included in the scrapbook are Selective Services cards, typed poetry from famous writers, such as Rudyard Kipling, and newspaper clippings related to military service during World War I.
This item is a student notebook from 1907, containing mechanical mathematical equations from the course "Notes on Mechanics," taught by Professor Palmer Ricketts. The notebook was kept by Needham Waddell, RPI Class of 1908.
This item is a student notebook of John A. Ubsdell, RPI Class of 1889. The notebook was titled, "Notes on Adjustment and Use of Instruments," after a course given by David M. Greene, who was a Director and Academic Head of Rensselaer. Topics in the notebook include scientific instrument use, mathematic formulas and equations, level measurements, and figure drawings of how to use certain instruments, such as transits.
This volume appears to be John W. Stebbins' personal scrapbook of Odd Fellows activities. Includes articles about Stebbins' election to the post of Grand Sire, the highest position in the Odd Fellows organization. The content of the scrapbook dates between 1870 and 1892.
This record book lists name, number in family, occupation, place of residence, personal property, amount of cash on hand, and remarks of people wishing to join the Sodus Bay Phalanx. The Phalanx itself was a Fourieran socialist group that lived near Sodus Bay from 1844 to 1846. The record book dates from 1844.
The Handy Mechanics Chart contains information on the size of drill and pipe threads, as well as a small conversion chart for linear and square measures.
Written by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute alumnus Henry Sedley (Class of 1848), "An Engineer in El Dorado" is a personal account of his time at RPI, moving to California after graduating, the 1849 San Francisco fire, and the California gold rush.
This small collection, from Fred W. Schwartz, Class of 1905, contains typed loose notes from a course titled, "Division A. Topics in Electrodynamics." Included in this collection is a class topic schedule, homework list, a blueprint drawing of a brush arc light machine, and a table used to determine machine power and torque.
This RPI field notebook, kept by William Schneider, Class of 1912, was used for a hydrographical survey on the Hudson River in New York, and for a topographical survey in Bennington, Vermont. Included in this notebook are survey readings, small drawn maps, tide gages, and flow readings of the Hudson River, motor ratings, and more.

This volume records meteorological information during two time spans. The first, taken between January and May of 1827, includes temperature readings taken three times per day along with wind speed and weather. The second set of readings, taken between January and June of 1843, includes temperature (recorded four times daily), barometric pressure, clearness of the sky, wind velocity, and rain fall.
This photo album, kept by David E. Reader (RPI Class of 1927) depicts Reader and his college classmates, campus scenes and buildings, and RPI events, such as tug of war and the Push Ball Rush.
Ambrose V. Powell's (RPI Class of 1868) diary, dated 1865. Powell describes his college experience as a student at Rensselaer, and writes about news of the Civil War. The most noteworthy diary entries describe Powell's reaction to President Lincoln's assassination, how the city of Troy mourned the passing of the President, as well as mentioning his visit to Albany to view President Lincoln's casket.

This collection covers the entirety of American Can Company’s years of business, from 1901-1989, with a large number of photos (many duplicates of the same company distributed photos). It also includes personal reference books of former employees, publications distributed by the company, and tools of the trade. Blueprints, correspondence, articles, and photographs make up the bulk of the collection.

This student notebook, kept by Richard G. Len, RPI Class of 1947, contains notes from a course titled Electric and Magnetic Circuits I. The notes include experiment reports in electrical engineering, focusing on currents, circuits, and electrical resistance.
Field notebook for RPI's Junior Class Hydrographic and Topographic Survey, kept by Adolph Kohlhofer, Class of 1912. The notebook includes sketches of surveys, tide gage readings, level notes, notes on the Hudson River, various computations, and related information. Kohlhofer also listed the surnames of other students who worked on both surveys with him.
One 4x5" artist's book containing a small plastic box of transparent sheets, approximately 1x1.5" each. Contents are described as "World libraries of artist'books collected in edible microcard form.(24) To Consume before the meal." Published in Charleroi, Belgium.
This scrapbook includes photographs, programs, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia relating to the Four Horsemen, an RPI acapella quartet comprised of Dave Benedict (baritone), Chuck Kelly (lead), Jim Moore (bass), and Bob Wassung (tenor). Also included in the scrapbook are digital re-recordings on CDs and DVDs of the RPI Glee Club, including "Songs of Rensselaer" (1948), a performance at RPI's 125th anniversary celebration (1949), and Gabriel Faure's "Requiem" (1950). Also contained in the scrapbook are two CDs of photographs from RPI Class of 1950 reunions (1995, 2000).
This item is a letter to RPI student, Edward Root Kellogg, Class of 1841, from his father, regarding a request for money while at Rensselaer, dated June 27, 1840. Edward asked his father for twenty five dollars, and in the letter, his father says that he's sent twenty six dollars for him.
This collection covers the years that America was involved in World War II and Geneva’s efforts on the home front, plus the years the ‘Our Boys Fund’ Committee was still going into the 1950s. There are publications made for the home front and for soldiers, ration books, articles, and photos; documents related to Our Boys Fund and the Geneva City Defense Council.

The Historical Society possesses quite a few pieces of Hotel Seneca that have been left behind including menus, wine lists, pamphlets, a napkin, and even pieces of wallpaper. There is not much material from the days of the Nester Hotel but rather the time period during which the building was Hotel Seneca, 1912-1982.
This collection covers the expansion of the company from Troy to Geneva. Many of the catalogues also contain information and photos of the Troy warehouse and salesroom. Catalogues and photos make up the bulk of this collection and cover the early days of the factory in Geneva and into the mid-20th century.
These materials cover 1796 through the 1990s with histories, research, articles, and photographs on the building and its uses since it was built. Especially important are the deeds related to the Hygienic Institute’s Amos B Smith and James Knapp and the Pulteney Apartments, Inc.
This collection covers the years 1817 through 1930 and includes deeds, mortgages, bonds, protests, catalogs, photos, invoices, and receipts. Deeds and tax receipts for land in Utah, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, and others addressed to W&T Smith Co. point to their ownership of land in these states with connections to other nurseries. Most dates for deeds/mortgages/bonds are those for the date the deed was recorded by the clerk, not the date on the deed itself.
This collection contains photographs, catalogs, advertisements and articles from various publications. Also included is correspondence conducted between the Geneva Historical Society and others from the 1960s-2000s, mostly with Eleanor Clise, GHS Archivist. Most Fay & Bowen material comes from after the company moved from Auburn, 1904, until it closed in 1929; a couple of catalogs or copies are included from pre-1904. Also included are FayBow materials from the early 1930s.

The collection covers 1881-1924, though Haviland dies in 1921 some materials were kept together despite not being related. Staff may decide to split these materials up later on.

The notes were kept by Robert Gorton, RPI Class of 1937. Topics include dimensional mathematics, problems and questions from the Fluid Mechanics book, and different scientific and mathematical equations.

Includes three photographs showing Astronaut John Swigert Jr., with accompanying biographical information, and an image of Kevin Bacon, who played John Swigert in the movie "Apollo 13," which was released in 1995.
