Scope and Content:

This collection includes ledgers, articles, and other miscellaneous ephemera related to WW Haviland, his pharmacy, and his other partners. The collection covers 1881-1924, though Haviland dies in 1921 some materials were kept together despite not being related. Staff may decide to split these materials up later on.

Biographical / Historical:

Dr. William W Haviland was born in Geneva and lived at 30 Geneva St his whole life. He was involved in the druggist business for most of his life, working at the drug store at the corner of Castle and Exchange Sts before opening Haviland and Hemiup at 34 Seneca St with Dr. Charles Hemiup. After Hemiups death, Haviland continued the business, moving to 71 Seneca after a couple of decades. It was moved to 418 Exchange two years previous to his death, engaging in business with Joseph W McElroy, formerly of the Weld Drug Company. Haviland was also connected with the Geneva Mineral Springs Co. and the Phillip and Clark Stove Company. Haviland died in 1921 at age 71.
