This collection consists of important photographs and drawings found loose in the collections of the Local History Division. The materials present include a large sepia portrait of young Henry Lomb; large picture of the Mercury statue; and a drawing of Rundel Library, along with various drawings and lithographs.

This collection focuses on Cooperstown, NY and consists of notes, photographs, and lists identifying people in photographs but the photographs are missing. Series 1 is a timeline (1792-1919) that lists significant Cooperstown events. Series 2 consists of notes on various topics and people of Cooperstown. Series 3 consists primarily of annotated group photographs and lists of people.

Brandeis, Louis Dembitz
Contains thirteen letters, on a variety of subjects. Of most interest are a letter written to Walter Lippmann, referring to a talk with Felix Frankfurter regarding Brandeis' confirmation as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1916), and a letter to Abraham H. Sakier regarding Brandeis' desire not to have his name connected with any fund-raising project for a university in Palestine (1930).

The collection was originally housed in several filing cabinets in and near Miwa Kai's office space in Kent Hall, which she shared with Wm. Theodore de Bary. Kai kept well-organized files, and most of her original file names have been retained. In addition to the papers she collected and created through the course of her work and personal life, she also inherited papers created by Howard P. Linton and Ryusaku Tsunoda, which she incorporated into her own files and enhanced with supplementary material and her own hand-written notes.

Cary, Edward Richard

RPI Professor Edward R. Cary's "A Short Lecture Course on the Construction of Diagrams for The Div. B - C.E. Students at R.P.I." Cary was RPI Professor of Surveying and Railroad Engineering, and his typescript lists the kinds of diagrams presented in the course, such as comparison and conversion diagrams, alignment diagrams, and logarithmic diagrams.

Rautenstrauch, Walter, 1880-1951

Scientific, professional, and academic papers of Rautenstrauch, consisting chiefly of notes, outlines, charts, and memoranda assembled by him for his courses at Columbia, his lectures, articles, and professional consultations. There is also a group of blueprints, plans, charts, and graphs related to various American industries and a large group of miscellaneous unbound periodicals, pamphlets, reports, and other printed material.

Mr. Weil apparently used film packs for his 4x5 shots and made his selection for printing after developing them. He also apparently used a 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 cameras at the same time, so that he has negatives of the same scene in a couple of formats and several different exposures. Mr. Weil also made several duplicate prints; some of which may have been made for commercial purposes; some for technical reasons, as he notes in various places different exposure times and paper types.

William Wheeler (1780-1833) seems to have been one of the first of the Wheeler family in Albany County, New York. Born in Oyster Bay, New York, he became a wheelwright and farmer in Westerlo. This collection contains genealogies, correspondence, and other family-related materials.

Ferguson, Duncan (1901-1974)

Duncan Ferguson was a New York City-based sculptor and the husband of Alice Decker. Many of the photographs were taken in China, as his father, John Calvin Ferguson, was the founder and president of Nanking University and an advisor to the Chinese Government. Mary Ferguson, whose papers are held at the Rockefeller Archive Center, was his sister.
