Background

Scope and Content:

Although these plans are identified as the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Davies project is not listed in the standard works on Wright nor was it known to Wright experts consulted by Mr. John D. Randall at the time the plans were acquired by the State University of New York at Buffalo. The house was not built.

The identification of the plans rests on the title block of the rendering of the front view of the house (see appended list). Unfortunately none of the plans are dated.

The exact location of the proposed structure is also unknown. The street plans show an area bounded by Cherokee Parkway and Transit Avenue which merge to form Long Avenue which is intersected by Spring Street. The plans also show a number of minor side streets and Beargrass Creek.

Several of the plans are marked in red crayon "164" or "Davies 164."

Biographical / Historical:

Mr. W.W. Davies seems to have been a lawyer who was a partner of Judge

Robert Bingham in Louisville and moved to New York in the 1920's.

of Buffalo Foundation from Mr. Carl Sperl of West Seneca, New York and
