Will Hicok Low (1853-1932) was born in Albany, New York, and became an artist, muralist, and writer. This collection includes correspondence, personal papers, photographs, and reproductions of his work.

The Lathrop sisters, Dorothy Pulis Lathrop (1891-1980) and Gertrude Katherine Lathrop, (1896-1986) were from Albany, New York. Dorothy was a writer and illustrator of children’s books, while Gertrude was a sculptor, particularly of small animals. Their mother, Ida F. Pulis Lathrop, was a portrait, still life, and landscape artist. The Dorothy and Gertrude Lathrop Papers include correspondence, book lists, clippings, photographs and books to, from, and about Dorothy and Gertrude Lathrop.

Marian I. Hughes was born and raised in Albany, New York. She is the sister of K. Leroy Irvis, the 130th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and author of This Land of Fire. Although born in Albany, her life has been spent on an international stage, where she has been a prominent supporter of black studies and improved race relations.

The Meadows collection is comprised of documents, papers, and photographs collected by the families that owned The Meadows mansion in Cazenovia, NY. These families include The Ledyards, The Hubbards, and The Oakmans, providing a snapshot of the personal life of an upper class family during the mid 1800s to the 1950s. Hybertie Lansing Pruyn Hamlin (1873-1964) was born in Albany, New York, to John Van Schaick Lansing Pruyn (1811-1877) and Anna Fenn Parker Pruyn (1840-1909). Her father was a U.S. Congressman, representing New York’s 14th District. One of her sisters was Harriet Langdon Pruyn Rice (1868-1939). Hybertie married Charles Sumner Hamlin (1861-1938) in 1898. Charles was a lawyer, delegate to three international peace conferences, and later, the first Governor appointed to the Federal Reserve Board in 1914.

Winifred Goldring (1888-1971) was born in Kenwood, New York, and eventually became the New York State Paleontologist, working at the New York State Museum. This collection contains biographical materials, correspondence, photographs, and publications.

James Boyd (1742-1832) and Jane MacMaster Boyd (1751-1831) arrived in Albany, New York, from Scotland in 1774. In 1796, James founded the Arch Street Brewery, which would later become the Albany Brewing Company. This collection contains correspondence, personal papers, and photographs.

Daniel Evan Button (1917-2009) was a Republican politician elected as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. After his landslide win for the 1966 election, Button once again ran and was re-elected to his seat on the House of Representatives as a representative of New York. He ran for a third term in 1970, but was ultimately defeated. This collection contains newspaper articles, letters, speeches, documents, photographs, and published works in his memory.

Joel W. Burdick accepted a position as a clerk with the D & H (Delaware and Hudson) Railroad Company in 1879, and moved with his wife to Albany, New York. He eventually rose to the position of passenger agent, and he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. This collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, and photographs.

Contains items from the Borthwick, Smith, and Strong Families including correspondence, diaries, family histories, financial papers, land records, a school notebook, and a manuscript cookbook. Additional material includes two woman's diaries, land records, a history of the Bushnell Family, and Hattie E. Kurtz's school notebook. Of unusual interest is a black & white photograph of Abraham Lincoln taken by Matthew Brady in Washington, DC in 1864.

This collection contains material accumulated by Pauline A. Bennett during her trip to the Far East in 1921 with John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and his party; newspaper clippings, correspondence, catalogs, and b/w photographs.

This collection covers Alice Bartlett’s time at Fredonia and her involvement with the Theater Arts Program. It covers various productions that she oversaw and her interest in speech and speech therapy.

Frederick Joseph Lawrence (1825-1904) was a prominent decorator and coach painter who resided in Albany, New York. This collection contains business papers, personal papers, Edward Tallmadge Papers, daguerreotypes, and newspapers.

Parker Dunn was a winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The bridge over the Hudson River was named in his memory. An American Legion Post was named for Parker Dunn.

A collection of materials from Albany resident William Gorham Rice, mostly related to his interest in and publications on the subject of the Carillon Bell.

Walter Launt Palmer (1854-1932) was born in Albany, New York, and became a prominent landscape painter. This collection includes diaries, correspondence, personal papers, studio books, and photographs.

William Law Learned Peltz, (1882-1961), was a graduate of the Albany Academy, Yale and the Albany Law School. This collection consists of clippings, transcriptions, journal articles, receipts, letterheads, correspondence, postcards, photographs, pamphlets and prints.

Mary Palmer Calverley Byrne-Ivy (1870- ) was a singer, pianist and voice teacher. Mary's father was Charles Calverley, an artist who served as an assistant to Erastus Dow Palmer for a time in Albany, New York.

Thomas Worth Olcott (1795-1880) was born in Hudson, Columbia County, New York, to Josiah and Carolina Worth Olcott. Olcott eventually became president of the Mechanics and Farmer Bank in Albany, New York, and served on the boards of the Albany Law School and the Dudley Observatory, among others. This collection contains estate records, correspondence, newspaper clippings, bills, account books, photographs, scrapbooks, and genealogical information.

The collection includes an extensive genealogical study of the Falk, Herschowitz and Rosenfeld families done by Louise Marwill. The study follows the family from Germany to Albany and is comprised of families stories and photographs. There is an extensive section on the family escaping Germany during the Holocaust which includes Kathe Mueller Slonim’s first hand account of what she witnessed in Germany and letters written by Gottlieb Rosenfeld about what he witnessed in Frankfurt and his desperation to get his family safely to the United States. There is a small collection of post cards sent by Henry Perle during World War II. There are several pieces of school material for Louise Marwill including school programs, certificates and photographs. There is also material from Louise’s marriage to Lawrence Marwill on June 19, 1960.

Arthur Julius Hacker (1916–1999) and Marilynn Agnes Pyne (1918-2002) married in 1947. They had two children, both born in Albany: Craig Arthur Hacker (1951- ) and Arlynn Jean Hacker (1948- ).

Papers of several family members, consisting mostly of correspondence. Collection consists mainly of papers of Cuyler Reynolds and Dexter Reynolds.

The Banks Family Papers collection consists of personal and legal papers of Robert Lenox Banks and his family, primarily his daughter, Mary Decamp Banks Moore. These include correspondence to and from the Banks Family by local businessmen, politicians, such as New York Governor, John T. Hoffman, and William Vanderbilt, President of the Hudson River Railroad. The documents are mostly personal in nature, describing the private life of a prominent local family of the 19th Century. Also in this collection are photographs, genealogical information, and other items relating to the Banks, Lenox, and Corning families.

This collection includes family papers for the Bedlow, Corpron, and McRae families, who were related through marriage and adoption. The Bedlow family was originally from Massachusetts before settling in Plattsburgh, then Champlain, New York. The collection contains correspondence, legal documents, financial documents, personal papers, ephemera, and photographs.

Research notes compiled by Susan Bonynge Strange and Lucretia Booth Evans in researching the Foot(e), Booth, and Colt lines of their family trees. This collection contains correspondence, genealogies, and photographs.

The Lansing/Townsend/Spenser Family Papers contain the records of twenty individuals from more than three families connected by marriage. The Lansing/Townsend/Spencer Family Papers span the period from 1717-1889 and contain correspondence, diaries, financial documents, and photographs relating to family life.

A collection of family papers from George Hornell and Ursula Jane (Boyd) Thacher and their three children, Margaret Euphemia, John Boyd and George Hornell. The bulk of the collection is correspondence to and from various family members between the 1830’s to the 1880’s. The collection has a limited amount of the children’s schoolwork and grades; financial papers concerning day-to-day living and educational expenses including numerous bill heads of Albany business from that period; and a limited amount of unidentified photographs. Lastly, the collection includes financial materials from the Albany Army Relief Bazaar in 1864. A list of who donated money and other items is included.

The Palmer-Gavit Family Papers include the correspondence, writings, genealogy, scrapbooks, photographs, and articles pertaining to the entire Gavit family. The collection also contains correspondence, reference materials, scrapbooks, record books and writings related to Erastus Dow Palmer and Walter Launt Palmer.

Personal papers of June Laura Bjorklund Martin. Contains personal records, correspondence, vacation materials, photographs, and other personal materials created by June B. Martin. Also contains a few documents reflect her career in New York State government, including newspaper clippings or personal letters between co-workers.

The Ten Eyck/Bronk Family Papers contain the records of the descendants of Jacob C. Ten Eyck (1705-1793), and primarily contain documents relating to family property and financial concerns.

Liesel Hiemenz was born around 1913 in Germany. She had some memories of living through World War I, and many from World War II, and much of the collection consists of her stories.

The collection contains minutes from organization meetings, newspaper clippings, show announcements, call for art posters, prints, photographs, both business related and personal correspondence including thank you notes and holiday greeting cards, newsletters from the organization, archive draft ideas, ledgers, ballots, material regarding the annual “Art on Lark” and “1st Friday” festivals, and fundraiser advertisements in various forms including posters and post cards. Also included are various business documents in relation to the Albany Institute including Deed of Gift paperwork, Bylaws, and Application for Tax Exemption.

William Christian Bouck (1786-1859) was from Schoharie County, New York. He became a politician, serving as Sheriff of Schoharie County, terms in the New York State Assembly and New York State Senate, on the Erie Canal Commission, and as Governor of New York. He also served in the militia in New York’s 18th Regiment and rose to become Colonel. This collection includes correspondence, financial records, legal records, and photographs.

Charles Argow Schade, a prominent Albany architect during the mid-20th Century, was born in Albany in 1910 to Catherine and William C. Schade, who was also an architect. Particularly known for his work on churches around Albany, he designed the Christian Education Building of the First Congregational Church of Albany in 1960, as well as the Freihofer Baking Plant addition in 1963. His father, William, was also a well-known designer of religious and residential properties. Two of his works were the Slingerlands United Methodist Church in 1871, and the St. Casimir’s Church Complex in Albany in 1896.

John Dunn Murphy worked at the Municipal Gas & Light Company, the Albany Fire Department, the New York State Civil Service Commission, and was an Albany County Court attendant until 1997. This collection contains correspondence, clippings, publications, ephemera, photographs, and photograph albums.

The Helping Hand Seal and Stamp Club, later the Women’s Stamp and Seal Club, was formed in 1936 by two friends, Mrs. George J. Skinner and Mrs. William Weigman. This collection includes minute books, photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, copies of stamps, constitution, and by-laws, correspondences, member information, meeting announcements, AIHA pamphlets, poems by members, Albany Academy history, award ribbons, a Loving Cup inscribed “Women’s Seal and Stamp Club of Albany,” NY Grand Award arch 26, 1946, three ink stamps, one “Elm Tree” die, painting of the “Elm Tree.”

Heath Babcock (1901-1992) worked at the New York State Library for 38 years as a medical librarian. This collection contains personal papers, photographs, and a scrapbook.

Erastus Corning 2nd (1909-1983), was a member of the New York State Assembly, the New York State Senate, and was served as the Mayor of Albany, New York, from 1942-1983. This collection contains correspondence, clippings, photographs, and other personal and political materials.

The collection includes Civil War letters associated with Oliver and John White; the W.H. Frazier Paper Company, Second Ave., Albany; the Stahler Funeral Home 1930, at different locations including Delaware and Hulburt Streets, Albany; Christopher Stahler Variety Bakery, 220 Lark Street.

Helen Fay (Juneman) “Aunt Helen” was one of the owners of the John Mistletoe Bookshop in Albany, New York. Olga H. Briggs was a teacher of English at New York State College, which is where the two women met and became friends. This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, and transcripts.

This collection is composed of letters written by brothers Albert and Garrett Vander Veer to family members. Garrett and Albert were the fifth and seventh children, respectively, of Abraham Harris and Sarah (Martin) Vander Veer and were officers in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The majority of the letters are addressed to the Vander Veer’s sister and brother-in-law, Esther and John Craig.

The Pruyn Family Papers contains documents relating to three consecutive generations of the John Pruyn Family, along with genealogies and personal papers of more distant family relations. An autograph collection of presidents, statesmen, and local historic figures is included. The ownership of 43-45 North Pearl Street is documented from the first sale in 1679 to the last in 1968. The estates of Eleanor Erving, Justine Bayard Erving and Van Rensselaer Pruyn are also documented.

The collection contains photographs, programs, correspondence, and materials related to the life of Nina Saunders Derby.

Fisher, Marshall Hill, Devillo Church, George Bliss, and Peter Betts. A scrapbook entitled "Landers Family Records - line of Thomas Landers of Lenox, MA," contains original Landers family correspondence and receipts, 1781-1846; newspaper clippings; photographs; and a color copy of the Landers family shield.
