The Office of the Messrs. Rockefeller (OMR) materials document the increasing role assumed by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in the management of Rockefeller affairs and amply document his business and philanthropic affairs. They also chronicle the entrance of JDR Jr.'s sons, John D. 3rd, Nelson A., Laurance S., Winthrop, and David, into the world of business, philanthropy, civic leadership, and politics as they joined the office.

This series consists of all material relating to John D. Rockefeller that could not be placed in the John D. Rockefeller papers (FA002) due to limitations of date and type of material. Of special interest are the correspondence files, including those related to boards, the Rockefeller family, and investments; and the files on the Forest Hill, Golf House, and Pocantico Hills properties.

The 35 boxes in this series cover the years 1898-1961. The Messrs. Rockefeller, Sr. and Jr., Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Abby Rockefeller Mauze, the five brothers, and their spouses are all represented in this series. Mr. Rockefeller, Jr., John D. 3rd, and Laurance S. Rockefeller are have the most connection to thse records.

The Religious Interests series reflects the Rockefeller family's interest in and contributions to various churches and religious organizations. The files contain correspondence between members of the family and the family office, as well as officials and members of the various religious institutions. In some cases, the files include financial information on the appealing institutions. The miscellaneous files generally contain unsolicited appeals for donations. The series illustrates family contributions to religious organizations up to 1962. The contributions were made to a wide spectrum of organizations and activities, such as missionary movements, interdenominational cooperation, and religious education.

The Boards represented in this series are the most important philanthropies that have been developed from the Rockefeller fortune: the Bureau of Social Hygiene; the China Medical Board of the Rockefeller Foundation and its successor, the China Medical Board, Inc.; the Davison Fund; the General Education Board; the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial; the Rockefeller Brothers Fund; the Rockefeller Foundation; the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (now known as Rockefeller University); the Rockefeller Sanitary Commission; the Sealantic Fund; and the Spelman Fund of New York.

The materials in this series represent the Rockefeller family's involvement over the course of more than half a century with mainstream charitable and philanthropic organizations. With certain important exceptions, these papers focus on maintenance organizations, i.e., groups handling the chronic problems of the disabled, alcoholics, juvenile delinquents, orphans, the elderly, and the sick. For this reason, much of the correspondence and other material contained here is of a routine nature and constitutes what was once called the "citizenship" obligations of the Rockefeller family.

This series contains 47 boxes of documents covering the years 1897 to 1961. This is a companion series to the Welfare General material and reflects the interest of the Rockefeller family, in particular John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and John D. Rockefeller 3rd, with issues and organizations specifically focused on American youth. The involvement of Mr. Rockefeller Jr. with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) and Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) dominates this series, accounting for 27 of the 47 boxes. The substantial material on these two organizations reflects both Mr. Rockefeller's strong Christian background and his choice of these agencies as the philanthropic vehicle for a variety of activities--missionary outreach, settlement work, sex education lectures, urban recreation, and the Training Camp activities during the World War I. However, most of the material in this series describes the support given to local Ys in the United States and abroad. The strong interest of Laurance S. Rockefeller and Mary French Rockefeller in the work of the YMCA and YWCA also is evident from these documents.

The World Affairs series reflects the Rockefeller family's contributions toward national defense and international relations. The series is divided into seven sections: Foreign Policy, including the Foreign Policy Association and the Council on Foreign Relations; Institute of Pacific Relations; National Defense, which includes material on war preparedness, veteran's organizations, civil defense, the Commander Byrd expeditions and the New York City Airport Authority; Post-War Reconstruction; Peace Plans, which contains material on peace organizations, the League of Nations and the United Nations (including material on John D. Rockefeller, Jr.'s gift of the site for the United Nations headquarters); War Relief; and National War Fund.

The Oliver Phelps Papers are comprised of one box containing correspondence written by Samuel Street (1753-1815), a merchant trader and land speculator who supplied goods to the British stationed at Fort Niagara during the Revolutionary War. In addition to Oliver Phelps, Street's correspondents include General Israel Chapin (1740-1795), George Washington's aide-de-camp and first agent for Indian Affairs in Western New York, and Reverend Samuel Kirkland (1741-1808), missionary and liason between New York State and the Iroquois in land negotiations following the Revolutionary War and founder of the Hamilton-Oneida Academy, which was to become Hamilton College. The correspondence largely concern relations with the Native Americans and land settlements. One bill for goods, issued to Chapin by Street and Colonel John Butler (of Butler's Rangers), is housed in the last folder.

The collection is arranged by specific topics. The GAR and Civil War material occupies the majority of box 2, the remaining topics and general correspondence are filed in box 1.

The Perry B Dunyea, Jr. Papers is a collection documenting Dunyea's years as Republican Majority Leader of the State Assembly. This collection includes news clippings, a weekly column published about significant issues, Dunyea press releases, and other publicity materials released by his staff. This collection does not include any of his personal papers. The collection appears to be composed of material assembled for research about Duryea around 1972.

Administrative records, correspondence, membership materials, and printed materials of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (Syracuse University Chapter)

This collection contains photos taken and research done in the 1920s -1940s by a traveler with a deep interest in New York State history. Images of the following regions: the Adirondacks, Capitol, Catskill, Hudson and Mohawk River Valley, greater New York City, Long Island, and Niagara; and of the 1939 New York World’s Fair are included.

Papers of the three generations of the Rice and collateral Kingston and Winter families, mostly centered in Western New York State. Victor Moreau Rice (1818-1869), son of William Rice, was the State's first Superintendent of Public Instruction; other family members were also active in education. Collection includes Correspondence (1823-1960), mostly between family members; genealogical material, including research notes, charts, and scrapbooks; legal and financial material (1812-1953), including household ledgers and muster rolls of the New York Volunteer Militia (1812, 1814, 1838); memorabilia (1810-1957); photographs; and writings (1800-1965), including notebooks and diaries.

American conservationist, New York State Commissioner of Conservation from 1956 to 1958. Collection contains articles about Mauhs and a number of reports, press releases, speeches and other writings by him.

The Business and Professional Women's Club of Albany, New York, (BPW) was founded in 1934 with 22 charter members as a chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of New York State, Inc. (founded in 1919) and a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. The objectives of the club, according to its by-laws, were "To elevate the standards for women in business and in the professions; To promote the interests of business and professional women; To bring about a spirit of cooperation among business and professional women of the United States; [and] To extend opportunities to business and professional women through education along lines of industrial, scientific, and vocational activities."

The Environmental Clearinghouse, Inc. also known as ECOS, is a regional environmental organization founded in Schenectady, New York in October 1971 by members of the Junior League of Schenectady, Inc. and supported since 1974 by membership contributions, donations, and volunteers.

The Glove Cities Area Joint Board of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA) was founded in Gloversville, N.Y., 1954. This Joint Board originally had jurisdiction over the clothing workers unions in Gloversville and Johnstown, N.Y., and nearby villages. These locals were primarily locals of glove and leather goods workers.

Correspondence, newspapers, pamphlets and scrapbooks of material relating to the career of Thurlow Weed, 1797-1882.

The Thomas Norman Hurd collection includes his 1975 testimonies before the New York State Moreland Act Commission on Nursing Homes and Residential Facilities. The remainder of the collection is composed of Hurd's 1976 contributions to the weekly reports submitted to Vice President Nelson Rockefeller on New York City's budget crisis and progress toward resolution. These reports were also presented to President Gerald Ford.

United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and PipeFitting Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 105 Records document the regular business of this chapterof the union, including meetings, financial reports, grievance reports, and membership.

United University Professions (UUP) is the union and collective bargaining agent for the faculty and non-teaching professionals of the State University of New York (SUNY). UUP (initially named SUNY/United) was created by the 1973 merger of the Senate Professional Association (SPA) and the State University Federation of Teachers (SUFT).

This collection contains the drawings, paintings, sketches, and woodcut prints of William M. Beauchamp included in bound volumes (sketchbooks and scrapbooks) and on loose sheets. Taking landscapes with water features as his primary subject, Beauchamp captured New York State’s lakes (especially Skaneateles Lake and environs), waterways, countryside, mountains, and small towns with graphic detail.
