Letters donated from the collection of Nina Tannenbaum, and Tiye, Robin, and Duccio Castelli in honor of Professor Peter Pazzaglini, the Columbia Core, and to all of the great teachers who have inspired, illuminated, and enriched their lives. Both letters reflect the efforts of a young writer to be connected to and absorb the advice of eminent Italian writers of his and his family's cultural milieu. One letter from Italo Calvino to Duccio Castelli analyzing the young writer's story, comparing his style to contemporary American writers, such as Raymond Chandler and Damon Runyon, as well as suggesting techniques for incorporating the life and language of Milan into his stories. The second document reflects the connections between Duccio Castelli's mother, a book-seller and figure in the early and mid-century Italian writing and publishing scene, and Salvatore Quasimodo, Nobel Laureate 1959, with whom she shared her son's poetry. The collection contains both original documents as well as Duccio Castelli's translations into English and his account of how he wrote to Italo Calvino and received advice from the renowned writer.

Correspondence between Michael Meredith Hare, architect, philosopher and author, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Taliesin Fellowship member, William Bye Fyfe, when Hare was an architecture student at Yale in 1933, concerning Hare's inquiry into a Fellowship at Taliesin and Wright's views on architectural education. Also includes a 1940 autobiographical sketch of Hare.

The papers of Prominent Local Jews in the Jewish Archives of Greater Buffalo include the papers of Donald S. Day, Dorothy Goldberg, Bernard Mandelkern, Morton Merowitz, Haskell Penn, and Milton Plesur as well as oral history interviews with other notable persons. This unique collection contains letters from all over the world sent in response to an announcement by Michael Brody Jr., the 21-year-old heir to a margarine fortune, that he would give away his inheritance to people in need, and in doing so would solve the problems of the world.

The collection was originally housed in several filing cabinets in and near Miwa Kai's office space in Kent Hall, which she shared with Wm. Theodore de Bary. Kai kept well-organized files, and most of her original file names have been retained. In addition to the papers she collected and created through the course of her work and personal life, she also inherited papers created by Howard P. Linton and Ryusaku Tsunoda, which she incorporated into her own files and enhanced with supplementary material and her own hand-written notes.

Raphael Lemkin, an international lawyer, initiated the use of the term "genocide," and succeeded in persuading the United Nations to adopt the Genocide Convention in 1948. Documents include personal correspondence and artifacts; correspondence, documentation, clippings, and articles regarding the United Nations adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment on the Crime of Genocide treaty; and source material for the unfinished manuscript,History of Genocide. Collection includes photographs, identity cards, articles, papers, essays, clippings, magazines, research materials, term papers, posters, United Nations materials, and microfilm.

Serge Prokofiev (1891–1953) was a Russian and Soviet composer, pianist and conductor, and seminal figure in the history of twentieth-century music. The Serge Prokofiev Archive (SPA) contains 58 original music manuscripts and over 10,000 letters and documents primarily from 1918-1936, the years Prokofiev spent in the West. The SPA also includes an expansive collection of music manuscript copies, published scores, concert programs, scholarly books and articles, photographs, and audio and video material, making it the premier research collection for studying Prokofiev's life, work and legacy.

A collection of 17 cataloged items collected by Seymour B. Durst as part of his Old York Library collection. In addition there is a quite extensive collection of newspapers.

The collection consists mainly of correspondence from the famous Austrian writer Stefan Zweig with various friends and acquaintances, acquired by the Leo Back Institute in New York through donations and auctions. Also included are copies and a few printed materials.

Letters written by Stephen Soroka, 1967-1972 and 1980-1981, to State University of New York at Buffalo history professor Orville T. Murphy. Of particular interest are his observations of life and politics in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rhodesia while serving in the Peace Corps. In his personal response to the political concerns of the late 1960's and early 1970's, Soroka is representative of the thinking of a significant segment of the American public of that period.
