The family-related images include individual and group portraits of his immediate family -- namely his wife Abby Aldrich Rockefeller and their six children -- Abby Mauze, John D. Rockefeller 3rd., Winthrop Rockefeller, Nelson A. Rockefeller, Laurance S. Rockefeller and David Rockefeller, as well as a selection of relatives. The collection also contains images of the Rockefeller family homes, primarily their residences in New York and Seal Harbor, Maine as well as images of family trips and travel throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the American West.

The series also includes a wide variety of images of gubernatorial appearances and campaign activities as well as photographs pertaining to Nelson's service as Vice President of the United States.
