The New School Archives and Special Collections provides primary source materials that document the histories of all divisions of The New School, as well as work created by its extended community. The Archives also holds material not directly connected to New School history, with particular strengths in 20th-century fashion, interior, and graphic design practices.

Williams, Tracyann
Records of Tracyann Williams, PhD, who served as director of Academic Affairs for the Bachelor's Program for Adult and Transfer Students (BPATS) in The New School's Schools of Public Engagement until she left the university in early 2020. Includes documentation on the Diversity Committee and the Diversity Task Force, the Gender Studies program, the Faculty Senate, and Students of the African Diaspora, for whom Williams was a faculty advisor.

Vidich, Arthur J.
Arthur J. Vidich (1922-2006) was a long-term member of the faculty at the New School for Social Research as a professor of Sociology (1960-1991). He published dozens of books, papers, and edited anthologies, notably Small Town in Mass Society: Class, Power, and Religion in a Rural Community (1958). This collection contains material documenting his teaching, writing, lectures, and other academic and professional work spanning his entire career. Included are correspondence with colleagues, friends, and presses; manuscript and typescript drafts of his writings; conference and lecture materials; subject files relating to his colleagues and personal life; and items pertaining to his teaching at the New School and other institutions, as well as his role as chair of the New School Sociology Department; photographs; and audio and video recordings of lectures, talks, and courses.

Van Doren, Ruth Hendricks
The Human Relations Center was a long-running program (1951-circa 1986) at the New School organized by women and directed primarily toward the personal, social and career development of women. The collection consists primarily of materials dating from the 1970s, and includes publicity materials regarding courses, seminars and public programs and materials connected to the partnership with the Head Start program, and special training programs.

The New School Art Collection
This collection consists of records relating to the administration and programming of the New School Art Collection from 1987 to 2003, primarily during the tenure of Kathy Goncharov, who curated the collection from 1987 to 2000. The New School Art Collection was formally established in 1960 through a donation from Albert and Vera List.

Predominantly comprised of records produced by the Parsons School of Design Development Office, this collection documents fundraising, special programs, events, and reunion plans. Other offices included are Admissions, Alumni Relations, Career Services, Public Relations, Publication Design, Special Events, and Student Council. Pineles, Cipe, 1908-1991
This record group documents the activities of the New School's Communications and External Affairs (CEA) office, one of the university's largest administrative units. CEA was the successor administrative unit to the New School Publicity Office, and the New School Communications Office, respectively. The bulk of materials here date from the late 1990s through 2013, and includes digital photographs, printed publicity samples, posters, and project files consisting of analog and digital records from the Design and Publications Office of CEA. Access is being provided to this partially processed record group. In the absence of a collection guide, please consult with an archivist for further details. Please note that requests for files stored on digital media will require extra time to access.

Parsons the New School for Design. Product Design Dept
Contains records produced during Richard Yelle's term as department chair of Product Design (as well as its predecessors: Clay, Fiber, Metal Design; Clay, Metal, Textile Design; and Clay, Metal, Textile, and Product Design). Includes administrative records, information on competitions and exhibits, student work, course descriptions, and evaluations. Also includes examples of Yelle's professional work, and a poster for a Constantin Boym exhibit.

Parsons the New School for Design. Adam and Sophie Gimbel Design Library
The records of the Adam and Sophie Gimbel Art and Design Library of Parsons School for Design consist of administrative files generated by library administrators and school executives. Topics include library collections, facilities, fundraising, statistical record-keeping, and the library's role in school accreditation. The bulk of the records dates from the period after Parsons School of Design's library relocated in 1972.
