Background

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of meeting agendas and minutes, notes, reports, and emails pertaining to various New School committees and programs of which Tracyann Williams was a participant during the period of 1997 to 2016. These committees and programs include: the Diversity Committee and the Diversity Task Force, the Gender Studies program, the Faculty Senate, and Students of the African Diaspora.

A significant portion of the collection comprises materials related to the diversity initiatives that Williams was involved in, including the University Diversity Committee, which oversaw the implementation of the University Affirmative Action and Diversity Plan, and the Diversity Task Force, which promoted and monitored the progress of diverse hiring and enrollment of faculty, staff, and students across the university. The collection also includes a framed 2010-2011 student leadership award given to the Students of the African Diaspora organization.

The files in this collection include solely paper documents--no digital files were transferred to the archives. There is very little documentation in the collection related to Williams's teaching role at the university, and no materials documenting her role from the years 2016 until she left the university in 2020.
