The Local History & Genealogy Division of the Rochester Public Library holds more than 500 cubic feet of personal papers, records, and manuscripts related to the history of Rochester, Monroe County, and the Genesee Valley region of New York State. These important primary sources are invaluable to the preservation of the region's collective memory and provide first-hand glimpses into the lives of local luminaries and average citizens alike. Collection areas include the beginning and growth of public-supported educational media in Rochester; social reform in Rochester and Monroe County; and Rochester businesses, clubs, and organizations. Comprised of paper-based documents, glass plate negatives, lantern slides, and original artwork, highlights of these collections include a 1792 deed signed by Ebenezer “Indian” Allen; unpublished histories and biographies; and personal papers of Susan B. Anthony, former Rochester mayor Hiram Edgerton, and Nathaniel Rochester and the Rochester family, among many others.Rundel Memorial Building

Gay Alliance of Genesee Valley
This collection consists of the papers of Rochester based gay rights activists, Anne Tischer and Bess Watts. The materials date between 1984 and 2013, with a bulk of the materials dated between 2004 and 2013. The materials consist of ephemera, flyers, brochures, news articles, publications, meeting minutes, resource information, correspondence, notes, speeches, Pride at Work reports and minutes, photographs, and signs.

Antiquarian Study Club (Rochester, N.Y.)
The Antiquarian Study Club Records document the 69-year history of a local organization of like-minded individuals interested in engaging with history by means of group interaction and activities. Group members were also active collectors. The records consist of scrapbooks, bylaws, meeting minutes, photographs, programs, and member lists dating from the organization's founding in 1942 to 2005.

These records document the activities of the Burroughs Audubon Nature Club of Rochester, the oldest conservation group in the area. Included are booklets, correspondence, manuscripts, newsletters, and documents related to Rochester-area native flora and fauna. Also included are a variety of glass lantern slides and 35mm slides observing various wild plants, birds, and insects in varying stages of their life cycles. The lantern slides almost exclusively focus on different local bird species and their nests. Within the lantern slides are what seems to be different series of slides mixed in with one another. The previous original series order and list are currently unavailable and the slides have been put together in numerical order by slide.

Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester, N.Y.)

This collection consists of calendars and carrier greetings dating between 1828 and the present. The carrier greetings and the majority of the calendars were produced by local newspapers for distribution to subscribers. While much of the collection was assembled for historical interest, recent calendars have largely been collected due to their image content. For example, the Erie Canalway calendars represent the winners of an annual photographic contest, and the calendars are retained as much for aesthetic reasons as for informational ones. This is an artificial collection assembled by the Local History & Genealogy Division of the Rochester Public Library.

This collection consists of historical and statistical material collected on the Rochester Red Wings baseball team and its predecessors. The material covers the years from 1877 to 1994. It includes team rosters, statistical material on individual players and teams, photocopies of articles and books on the Red Wings and other Rochester baseball teams, and a few items of ephemera.

This is an artificial collection of concert programs and associated ephemera collected from various sources. The materials date from 1851 to present, providing a snapshot of Rochester's musical culture over the past 175 years.

This collection consists of a series of documents and images compiled by Saralinda Hooker, a planning and historical preservation consultant, in regards to the former Corpus Christi School on East Main Street in Rochester, New York in 2013. The history of Corpus Christi Church proper and the House of Industry/St. Agnes Institute (demolished 1957)building are also covered. The materials include a narrative history, site survey map, existing building plans, photographic documentation with keys, and a DVD holding a digital copy of the materials.

Canfield, David "Josh"

This collection consists of over 10,000 postcards collected by Rochester native David "Josh" Canfield from 1966 to 2021. The extensive collection includes numerous variant printings and private issues. The majority of this material consists of historic postcards showing diverse locations in Rochester with a large quantity of the collection printed by Stecher Lithographic Company, a local business in Rochester. In addition to this, a series of modern postcards can be found which consist of advertisements, announcements and promotions.

This collection consists of the papers collected by David Emert, Producer of the ImageOut! Film Festival and performer in the Rochester Gay Men's Chorus. The materials date between 1989 and 2013. The materials consist of programs, budgets, meeting minutes, and planning materials for the ImageOut! Film Festival, programs, photographs, and articles regarding the Rochester Gay Men's Chorus, buttons and pins, and posters.
