United States. Works Progress Administration (N.Y.)

The Works Progress Administration was a federal relief project of the Great Depression era. The Writer' Project provided work for people involved in creative or administrative work by doing writing and or research heavy tasks. The Place Names project involved cataloging and documenting the origins of place names. Materials in this collection include half-sheets of paper with geographical information. They record geographical, political, historical, and geological facts for the counties of Allegheny, Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates, and their towns, cities, and villages. The materials date from the late 1930s.

Rafter, Geo. W. (George W.)

A collection of about 106 mounted albumen prints created by George W. Rafter, a practitioner of high-powered photomicrography. In addition are a report by Rafter documenting his work and a modern reprint of an article he wrote for the Society of Microscopists. Plates 1-88 are described by a detailed inventory in folder 1; the descriptions here are abbreviated. Items 89-106 are smaller format prints, solely described from notes on the items themselves. Dated materials are from 1888.

Pearce, William J.
The William J. Pearce papers consist of materials related to Pearce's career in educational television. The papers, which date from the 1950s to the 1990s, also include Pearce's military service, his involvement with the Philosophers' Club, his long history in public television, and his passion for Native American culture, which can be seen in his work with the Friends of Ganondagan and the Native American Public Telecommunications. Pearce is the recipient of two Peabody Awards.

The Monroe County Library CLub was a social and professional organization for librarians and other library staff in all Monreo County libraries (public, academic, special). The organization held regular meetings, organized lectures and social gatherings, and advocated for library needs. Materials in the collection consist of surveys, minutes, correspondence, membership, clippings, officers, newsletters, constitution, and Harold Hacker notes/1980 25th anniversary materials. The materials date from c. 1955-2000.

This collection consists of photographs of adults and children, farmyard/barn scenes, urban housing, and welfare programs, all removed from what was known as the "Rochester Scrapbook." The images date to the early 1900s, and are believed to be related to Dr. Goler's clean milk campaign.
