Letters, manuscripts, printed ephemera and photoreproductions collected by Saffron. The collection reflects Dr. Saffron's two avocations: book collecting and the history of medicine. Of particular importance are three reels of microfilms of Hunterian manuscripts at the University of Glasgow Library. William Hunter (1718-1783) was a Scottish physician. In addition, there is an autograph signed manuscript by John Martyn titled "To the Author of the Grubstreet Journal" 1731-32; letters published in "The Grub-Street Journal" concerning Richard Bentley's edition of Milton; a letter from Stephen Phillips to [Sir Sidney Colvin]; and poetry of Emily Winthrop Miles
Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, subject files, printed materials, and memorabilia of historian George Vernadsky (Georgii Vladimirovich Vernadskii; 1887-1973). Most of the collection consists of his personal and professional papers, circa 1918-1973. Sizable groups of materials also concern members of his family, especially his wife Nina (1884-1971); his father, scientist Vladimir I. Vernadskii (1863-1945); his mother Nataliia E. Vernadskaia (1860-1943); and his sister Nina V. Toll' (1898-circa 1976).

Much of the correspondence concerns his American teaching and lecture engagements, primarily at the University of Louisville. There are also letters from his colleagues in France, including Françoise Van Rossum-Guyon, with a copy of her Introduction to an edition of Balzac's LE PÈRE GORIOT with Butor's critical letter for the publisher. There are critical and biographical manuscripts about Butor, and several printed works, each inscribed with a note by its author.
Rachinskai︠a︡'s manuscript memoirs discuss her childhood in Samara, and her education in Khvalynsk in the Saratov Oblast and Moscow. The collection includes a photograph of Rachinskai︠a︡ dated 1976 and a brief manuscript entitled "Otryvki iz moeĭ tetradi." (6 p.).

The memoirs concern the Depreradovich family, Siberia in the early 20th century, the Revolution and the Civil War, and the emigration in the Far East and the U.S.
Photographs of 20 Soviet musicians, writers, scholars, and others by Volkova. Included are Aram Khachaturian, Bella Akhmadulina, Evgeniĭ Evtushenko, and Viktor Shklovskiĭ. The photographs were shown at Volkova's "Faces" exhibition at Columbia University in April-May, 1978. Also included are two copies of the exhibition's program.
Mikhaĭlov's largely typescript memoirs discuss his experiences in the early part of the Civil War, his education, Grodno in 1905, and the Orthodox Church in China (including two photographs).
Reingardt's memoirs are in the form of twenty-one brief essays devoted chiefly to Civil War events in the area of Ekaterinodar. He discusses general Kant︠s︡erov and the Markov Division (with which he fought) and also includes excerpts from the memoirs of fellow officers (notably V. P. Stet︠s︡enko) and contemporary newspaper accounts. In addition, there are brief descriptions of historical military events and nineteenth century military figures. The essay entitled "Vospominanii︠a︡ uchastnikov o Gen. Kant︠s︡erove" includes several photographs of Markov Division parades, training and encampments.

The manuscripts (signed Evgenii︠a︡ Mor, her pseudonym) include short stories, poems and essays about the second world war. Particularly noteworthy are long essays on the painter Kuzḿa Petrov-Vodkin (including lists of his works in private collections) and the playwright Evgeniĭ Shvart︠s︡, both of whom Sidorova knew personally. There are also brief essays about the writers Alekseĭ Pli︠u︡shkin (Ugri︠u︡mov) and Ivanov-Razumnik.

The Group for Contemporary Music records document the function of an American chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music, dating from 1961 to 2012. The records consist of correspondence, photographs, programs, memoranda, schedules, meeting notes, clippings, contracts, bills, financial records, fund raising and grant applications, and so on.

The collection consists primarily of Sazhin's manuscripts, though there is also a brief curriculum vitae and a photograph of Sazhin and his wife. There are also essays dealing with his service as a military doctor during the Civil War and with his arrest and imprisonment in China in the 1950s.
Typescript memoirs that concern Grebenshchikov's years at the Pavlovskoe Voennoe Uchilishche (Pavlovsk Military Academy) from 1909-1911. Inserted throughout the memoirs are a number of photographs.

These files, more than three-quarters of which are in the Greek language, contain correspondence with Greeks, Greek-Americans, Greek officials, and diplomats, American congressmen, senators and other elected officials, print and media journalists, publishers, and other Americans regarding the dictatorship of the Greek colonels from 1967 to 1974. Also, routine requests for information on Greece, including the loan of audio-visual and pictorial materials, for use by journalists, teachers, students, publishers, etc. The files of letters dealing with the Greek Junta and Greek-American relations contain numerous photocopies of letters from American government and elected officials. Also included are nine sound recordings of Greek language broadcasts in the United States; pamphlets on Greece, and clippings from American newspapers on Greece and Greek-American relations; and photographs of one 1971 anti-Junta demonstration held in New York City. There are some financial records dating back to 1956, including account books, check registers, and cancelled checks.
Manuscript and typescript memoirs that describe Saratov in 1917, the Crimea in 1920, refugee camps in Turkey in 1920-21, Vienna during World War II, the repatriation of Cossacks at Lienz in 1945, and displaced persons after World War II. There are also three photographs.

The papers deal almost entirely with his eight years as County Executive, and consist of correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts of speeches, notes, press releases, photographs, and clippings. Among the major correspondents are James A. Farley, Hubert H. Humphrey, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward I. Koch, and Percy E. Sutton. The Investigation Files, which amount to nearly half the collection, document investigation into corruption and mismanagement in numerous Long Island businesses and governmental departments. These investigations, instigated and overseen by Nickerson, were carried out largely by the Commissioner of Accounts, Milton Lipson, and later by Samuel Greason, the first governmental ombudsman in the United States. These files consist primarily of memoranda, transcripts of hearings, payroll and financial accounts, notes, and tape recordings.
Her memoirs recount her childhood and education in Russia as a member of a Baltic-German family, her life in Finland after the February Revolution, her service as a nurse in St. Petersburg during World War I, and as a member of a Red Cross mission charged with caring for prisoners of war in Kiev and Moscow during the Civil War. She also describes her arrest and imprisonment in 1919 as well as her brother's experiences in Li︠u︡bi︠a︡nka prison during World War II. The memoirs (416p.) are in the form of a carbon copy typescript and are accompanied by original photographs. Also included in the collection are reprints of several articles published by her husband, Helmuth Stegman, in the 1960's.

The memoirs concern the 6th Hussar Regiment of Major-General Iakov P. Kuliev, and Colonel Nikolai Nikolaevich Alekseev, commander of the 97th Livland Regiment. Included in the manuscript on the 97th Livland Regiment are photographs, drawings and clippings.

Correspondence with non-Columbia organizations includes the Institute of Pacific Relations, Far Eastern Association, INDUSCO, Council on Foreign Relations, Asia Foundation, and American Council of Learned Societies, among others. Subject files relevant to Columbia University include items pertaining to the Department of Chinese and Japanese, later renamed the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, as well as teaching files, student files and research projects directed. The manuscript files contain the notes and, in some cases, printed copies of published and unpublished works and public talks. Wilbur's writings and research concentrate on the history and politics of twentieth century China, with emphasis on the Chinese Revolution, 1920-1929, Sun Yat-sen, and communism in China. There are translations of minutes for the first and second Kuomintang Congresses, copies of documents from the Kuomintang Archives, and photographs of members of the Young China Party, Sun Yat-sen and several historical events in the 1920s. Files on fund raising efforts for the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and the Wellington Koo Fellowship also contain relevant correspondence. Included among the correspondence are Diamond's letters to and from various distinguished members of Columbia University and other academic insitutions, as well as correspondence with many noted sociologists and historians. Included in the manuscripts is Diamond's "In Quest." The subject files comprise material from Diamond's tenure at Columbia and include some material pertaining to his forced departure from Harvard in the 1950's due to his previous communist affiliation, and his active role in maintaining the efficacy of the Freedom of Information Act. The research files include microfilms and notes.

The manuscripts, with corrections, notes and research materials are for his numerous contributions to periodicals, such as the "Letters from.." series in The New Yorker, radio and television scripts, interviews with prominent government officials, such as George Shultz, lectures, speeches, ideas and proposals for books, and an extensive file for his unpublished history of the investment firm, Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb, Inc. There is a set of news releases for his column, "Washington Insight" 1965-1984 and for his Los Angeles Times column, 1980-1985. The printed materials include newspaper clippings, articles by Kraft in foreign periodicals and some books from his library. The audio and video cassettes contain interviews with presidents and prime ministers as well as radio and television broadcasts on which Kraft appeared.

The manuscripts are all by Volzhanin himself, and include memoirs describing his World War I military service, his service in the White Army in Siberia, his arrest and imprisonment until about 1937, his service with the Germans during World War II, and his eventual emigration to the United States. Other manuscripts deal with noted figures in Russian history, the emigre press, and literature. There are a few photographs of Volzhanin and a number of clippings.
