Collection

The collection consists of two series: General Correspondence and Subject Files. Correspondence is mostly that of Annette Gardner Munro, who was Dean of Freshman and later the first Dean of Women at the University of Rochester. There is also correspondence of Katherine Bowen, Registrar of the College for Women, and other administrators. General correspondence relates to topics such as student applications and requirements for admission. It includes letters between Dean Munro and high schools regarding students' courses, grades, and recommendations; letters notifying students whether they have been accepted to the University; and letters in which students already enrolled inquire about courses and requirements for various degree programs. Additional correspondence with students relates to topics such as reserving rooms, certificate programs, scholarships, and tutoring. There are letters from alumnae applying to graduate school who request catalogs, lists of courses they have taken, and transcripts as well as some letters with correspondents outside the University community that discuss possible memberships and jobs for students. Subject Files contain mimeographed material and correspondence on topics ranging from alumnae associations, to nursing, to student government.
