Alexander A. Liveright was a professor of adult education and director of the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) for more than ten years. Correspondence, minutes and reports which highlight Liveright’s professional interests and affiliations. Included are papers generated while professor in the schools of education at Boston University and Syracuse University, as director of The Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults, and as founding member and Secretary of the International Congress of University Adult Education. Sagamore Conference papers and those of the New Institutional Forms Project, a research project begun by Liveright to study the development of comprehensive adult education programs, also appear in the collection. International adult education is the focus of records from trips to Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Thailand. Miscellaneous material includes newspaper clippings, War Manpower Commission documents, and material from the Highlander Folk School.

Professional material pertains to Dr. Charters' work with a wide range of issues and organizations in the field of adult and continuing education, including the Adult Education Association (AEA/USA), Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE), Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA), Coalition of Adult Education Organizations (CAEO), Commission of Professors of Adult Education (CPAE), International Conference on Adult Education (ICAE), International Congress of University Adult Education (ICUAE), Middle States Association (MSA), National University Extension Association (NUEA) and its successor organizations, and UNESCO. There is also extensive material relating to Dr. Charters' longstanding and central roles in adult education at Syracuse University as professor, department chair, and dean.

Established by a grant from the Fund for Adult Education in 1951, the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) worked with universities seeking to initiate or to improve adult education programs. Its purpose was to help American higher education develop greater effectiveness and a deeper sense of responsibility for the liberal education of adults. During its tenure the Center had three directors; John S. Diekhoff (1952-1953), John B. Schwertman (1953-1956), and A.A. Liveright (1956-1968). Papers of the American educator, consultant, lecturer, and author in the field of adult education. Collection consists of manuscripts, drafts, reports, interview tapes and transcripts, speeches, correspondence, reviews, films, memorabilia and publications that Houle collected.

Collection includes correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1934-1966); ms. drafts, scripts and research files for radio broadcasts (1937-1966); personal files, which include awards, clippings, itineraries, photographs, scrapbooks (1920-1966); films, sound recordings, and audio tapes used in broadcasts; and material related to his syndicated column. Hunsaker was involved in adult education for over sixty years. Papers include brochures, clippings, correspondence, memoranda, pamphlets, reports, speeches, audiorecordings of interviews, and materials related to Hunsaker's thesis. Best represented are the dissertation materials, his international activities with World Education, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UNESCO, and his activities related to professional conferences and seminars. Of interest are the papers related to his China and Middle East tours. Significant correspondents include Rewi Allen, George E. Davis, Thomas B. Keehn, Paul Sheats, and Hunsaker's family. Among the personal papers are those concerning Hermann H. Field, for whom Hunsaker acted as absentee executor.

Correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1917-1959); manuscript addresses, essays, prayers, sermons (1911-1961); photographs; and printed material, including articles, booklets, newsletters, reports, sermons (1918-1961), and other printed items relating to the Epworth-Euclid Methodist Church of Cleveland (1934-1959).

Files of the American educator (1907-1984). Personal files include oral history, correspondence from and about Theodor Wilhelm, memorabilia, photographs, material on Nazi education, student papers, speeches, selected writings, some audio-visual material, etc. There are organizational records for several California education organizations as well as a number of key national adult education organizations including the Adult Education Association of the U.S.A., Association of University Evening Colleges, Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults, National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, National University Extension Association, UNESCO, and University Council on Education for Public Responsibility. There are also more than 40 subject and country files and information on meetings and conferences, and two audiorecordings.

Per G. Stensland (born in Sweden) was an American educator and consultant. The Per Stensland Papers include conference papers, correspondence, proceedings, reports, and speeches. The papers reflect Stensland’s teaching activities at various institutions, among them, Teacher’s College at Columbia University, the University of Toronto, the University of Saskatchewan, Kansas State College and the Milbank Memorial Fund. There is material related to Stensland’s activities as a member and field representative for the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE). Correspondents whose letters are of greatest depth and duration include James T. Farrell, Margaret Gayfer, Budd L. Hall, J.R. Kidd, George E. Miller, Paul A. Miller, Gunnar Myrdal, Alexander Robinson, and Dorothy Thomas.

Collection includes correspondence (1941-1960); memoranda (1942-1960); photographs; financial material; minutes, reports, and other material pertaining to the Council on Foreign Relations (1954-1957) and the U.S. Air Force (1942-1960); articles; interviews; notebooks (1951-1959); and speeches (1946-1961). Collection contains professional correspondence, political, military and diplomatic records and legal case files of the American lawyer and Republican legislator (U.S. Senator from New Jersey).

The papers of the American city planner and administrator of the Triborough Bridge Authority and the Power Authority of the State of New York include bound and unbound reports containing articles, speeches, and clippings by and about Moses. Much of the material concerns transportation improvements and hydroelectric plants at Niagara Falls and Messena.

Papers of the adult educator, Florida State University. Papers include speeches, surveys and reports, in addition to some publications, primarily abstracts and bibliographies.

American conservationist, New York State Commissioner of Conservation from 1956 to 1958. Collection contains articles about Mauhs and a number of reports, press releases, speeches and other writings by him.

American social worker, child and maternal health advocate. Extensive published and printed material has been cataloged. Manuscript collection contains correspondence-subject files, most relating to a decade-long grant-funded project, and writings of both Insley and her colleague Kazuye Kumabe.
