The records of W.R. Grace & Co. cover the rise of the Grace shipping business from 1864 until World War II. The early correspondence concerns all aspects of the shipping business in New York and South America, mining interests in Peru and Chile, the railroad in Costa Rica, the inter-ocean canal planned for Nicaragua, and political interests throughout Central and South America. There are letter books, correspondence, and scrapbooks of clippings for all aspects of W.R. Grace's career. There are minute books and other documents for more than 50 subsidiary companies owned by W.R. Grace & Co. or by family members. The papers of Joseph Peter Grace (1872-1950) continue the business, family, and philanthropic activities until 1942. There are also 20 reels of motion picture film about the Grace Co. South American interests in the 1950s.

A collection of about 250 uncatalogued items consisting of correspondence with various Governors of the State of New Jersey, 1908-1936. Governors represented in the collection are Woodrow Wilson, John Franklin Fort, and Morgan F. Larson. The subject of the correspondence is extremely varied and is typical of the material crossing the desk of the average governor. Typical items are a letter from a local Woman's Christian Temperance Union chapter complaining about conditions at a local militia camp; a diplomat outraged at the treatment afforded a countryman at a local amusement park; a memorial erected to a Mexican aviator killed in the state; official transmittal of the Supreme Court decision in the Delaware River Basin Case involving New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; campaign contributions; and intra-party correspondence during the Wilson Gubernatorial administration. There is also a collection of three scrapbooks consisting of correspondence from contributors to the Wilson campaign chest, arranged by state and town of the correspondent. The collection offers insight into the grass roots appeal that Woodrow Wilson had for the poor and lower middle class American of the early 20th century. Also, a binder of newspaper clippings concerning Woodrow Wilson and his career, 1910-1912, that was compiled and presented to Wilson by Joseph Hayter of New Brunswick, N.J. on June 3, 1912.

The Women's National Book Association Papers document the history and work of the Women's National Book Association from their founding in 1917 until today. The organization is active in promoting women in the book industry through awards and programs to increase women's participation in the profession and the role of women in publishing and other book-related fields.

William Yukon Chang was the founder and editor of "Chinese-American Times", a Chinese American paper that published completely in English from 1955 to 1972. While running the newspaper, Chang also served in local social and civic groups to address issues facing the New York Chinatown community, including poverty, juvenile delinquency, mental illness and lack of access to adult language programs. The William Yukon Chang papers document Chang's life and career, Chinese American life, and social service and activism scene in the Lower East Side from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Papers of Shepherd, including correspondence with professional colleagues at home and abroad, U.S. government officials, and Latin American government officials dealing with his own publications, his trip to Austria in 1932, and his interest in Latin American affairs, the Institute of Latin American Affairs, the INTER-AMERICAN HISTORICAL SERIES, Latin American area studies, oriental area studies, and the NEW ORIENT SOCIETY. Personal, professional, and family papers of the journalist and writer Wilbertine Teters Worden (1866-1949). Some of the files concern her father, Colonel Wilbert Barton Teters (1836-1923) a Civil War veteran, his military reunions, and his gold mining interests in Colorado. Wilbertine Teters Worden's own manuscripts include both fiction (short stories and poetry) and non-fiction (she often wrote love stories from early American history). The collection also includes her diaries dating from 1885 through 1948. There does not appear to be much in the collection related to Worden's novel, The Snows of Yester-year" (Boston, Arena Publishing Company, 1895).

Vladimir Rosing (1890-1963) was a Russian tenor, producer, and director (primarily of opera) who worked largely in Britain and the United States. His papers include ephemera relating to his vocal and directorial career, but principally comprises his writings on art and politics, as organized and edited by his wife, Ruth, and son, Richard.

Correspondence, manuscripts, diaries, documents, subject files and printed materials of Vera Vinter and of her husband, Viktor. There are letters from Igor ́Sikorskiĭ. All the correspondence dates from 1919 to 1969. Much of it concerns Vinter's scientific work dealing with the chemical analysis of milk. The manuscripts are primarily by Viktor Vinter himself, and include a number of articles he published in Czech, German, Finnish and American scientific journals. There are several diaries, notebooks and scrapbooks relating to his scientific endeavors. Among the documents are medical statements concerning his World War I injury, passports, and two folders relating to patents. The photographs are chiefly of the Vinter family. The printed materials include journals containing articles by Vinter.

Clippings gathered into scrapbooks, chiefly from American newspapers, on various subjects relating to the Soviet Union and communism.

The Union Settlement Association Records document a century of the settlement's activities, and provide a unique view of the first wave of the settlement movement in America. They document social conditions, demographic change, political activity, philanthropy and social work in East Harlem with a strong emphasis on the urban renewal period of the 1950s and '60s. The records include: annual reports, board minutes and committee files, headworker and executive director files, program reports, community organization files, and visual materials such as photographs, maps and architectural drawings.

Scrapbooks of mounted newspaper clippings relating to the Civil War and the Reconstruction period, taken chiefly from contemporary New York papers, are arranged generally in a chronological sequence and entitled THE GREAT REBELLION (98 v.); ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE GREAT REBELLION consists of précis of the newspaper articles and refer to larger group by volume and page number (24 v.); INDEX refers to the ENCYCLOPEDIA by volume and page number and is arranged in large subject groupings as by state (4 v.); and GUIDE TO THE INDEX has subjects and individual names arranged alphabetically and refers to the INDEX by volume and page number (1 v.).
