Established by a grant from the Fund for Adult Education in 1951, the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) worked with universities seeking to initiate or to improve adult education programs. Its purpose was to help American higher education develop greater effectiveness and a deeper sense of responsibility for the liberal education of adults. During its tenure the Center had three directors; John S. Diekhoff (1952-1953), John B. Schwertman (1953-1956), and A.A. Liveright (1956-1968). The records include correspondence, organizational files, publication files, writings, and miscellany. Key correspondents, mostly from the Center, are James T. Carey, Alexander N. Papers of the American broadcast and print journalist. Collection includes correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1934-1966); ms. drafts, scripts and research files for radio broadcasts (1937-1966); personal files, which include awards, clippings, itineraries, photographs, scrapbooks (1920-1966); films, sound recordings, and audio tapes used in broadcasts; and material related to his syndicated column. Correspondents include Bernard Baruch, John W. Bricker, Harry Cain, Thomas E. Dewey, Paul G. Hoffman, J. Edgar Hoover, H.L. Hunt, Lee Keedick, Adolphe Menjou, Eddie Rickenbacker, Ralph W. Contains Knowles's personal and professional papers: biographical data, correspondence, photographs, printed and published material, scrapbooks, speeches, meeting and workshop documentation, cassette and video tapes, films, and graphics. Includes papers generated by Knowles as professor (Boston University and North Carolina State University); as member of a number of adult education organizations; as educator (workshops and seminars); and as consultant to various organizations.

Papers of the U.S. Federal Trade Commissioner. Collection includes general and legal files, correspondence, speeches, and memorabilia.

Papers of the American clergyman, Cleveland Methodist minister. Correspondence, incoming and outgoing (1917-1959); manuscript addresses, essays, prayers, sermons (1911-1961); photographs; and printed material, including articles, booklets, newsletters, reports, sermons (1918-1961), and other printed items relating to the Epworth-Euclid Methodist Church of Cleveland (1934-1959).

American military officer, commander of Allied Air Forces Southern Europe (NATO). Collection includes correspondence (1941-1960); memoranda (1942-1960); photographs; financial material; minutes, reports, and other material pertaining to the Council on Foreign Relations (1954-1957) and the U.S. Air Force (1942-1960); articles; interviews; notebooks (1951-1959); and speeches (1946-1961). Correspondents incude Laurence S. Kuter, Thomas S. Power, George E. Stratemeyer, Hoyt Vandenberg, Albert C. Wedemeyer, and Thomas D. White.

Collection contains professional correspondence, political, military and diplomatic records and legal case files of the American lawyer and Republican legislator (U.S. Senator from New Jersey).

The papers of the American city planner and administrator of the Triborough Bridge Authority and the Power Authority of the State of New York include bound and unbound reports containing articles, speeches, and clippings by and about Moses. Much of the material concerns transportation improvements and hydroelectric plants at Niagara Falls and Messena.
