The bulk of the collection relates to Wu's involvement in the American Physical Society as well as her research activities. The correspondence is chiefly professional, relating to C. S. Wu's physics research, professional commitments, appointments, meetings, conferences, and publications. Correspondence also includes letters from individuals around the world praising Wu for her accomplishments, asking advice, arranging speaking engagements, discussing administrative matters, and trading research notes, as well as information on publications and other topics. In addition, the collection contains information on Wu's involvement in the development of an affirmative action program at Columbia University in the 1970's.

Although the collection spans Reece's career, the early years are sparsely documented. Half of the collection deals with his monograph and periodical publications, including book reviews of them. There are letters from prominent American librarians, with numerous letters from Robert B. Downs and Jack Dalton. Many of these are letters congratulating him on being the first recipient of the Melvil Dewey Professorhip at Columbia and upon his retirement. Also, many handwritten drafts of his letters.

Harrison, Robert Underwood Johnson, and Joel E. Spingarn. There are 330 letters from Woodberry to Harry Harkness Flagler telling of Woodberry's daily life in Beverly, Mass. and of his travels in Europe and Africa. Additional correspondence, notes, and printed materials relate to Woodberry's life, writings, teaching career, retirement, the controversy in 1902 that led to his resignation from the Columbia University faculty in 1904, the bequest of his books to Harvard University and Phillips Exeter Academy, the Poetry Room dedicated in his honor at Harvard University, an exhibit of Woodberriana at the New York Public Library and the Woodberry Society. There are more than fifty manuscripts of his essays and poems. Among the printed materials are his poems, essays, and book reviews, most of which have been cut from THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY. Numerous files relate to Lazarsfeld's position as Associate Director of the Bureau of Applied Social Research (BASR). There are manuscripts of books, research papers, lectures, and articles by Lazarsfeld as well as by his students and colleagues.

Included are two small files of correspondence, approximately 100 items, relating to Rusk's editing of THE LETTERS OF RALPH WALDO EMERSON (1939) and to his study of occasional poetry in Colonial America for the Colonial Project in American Literature. The manuscripts include several miscellaneous items by Rusk, and five Columbia University masters essays submitted to him in connection with the Colonial American poetry study. Also, 12,000 note cards relating to this study as well as 150 photostatic copies of books of Colonial American poetry. For the Emerson edition there are 14,000 note cards on Emerson's life and letters. There are also 1,000 note cards for Rusk's edition of THE LETTERS OF EMMA LAZARUS (1939). The Columbia course related materials consist of notes, syllabi, reading lists, bibliographies, examination questions, lists of students and a few letters from them for Rusk's American literature course, 1931-1951. The printed materials are mainly reprints of articles on R.W. Emerson, inscribed to Rusk and containing annotations by him. In addition there are 23 photographs taken by Rusk in 1913, of a Passion Play which was performed in the Philippines.

Also, a photograph taken by Jack Aeby at the test site of the atomic bomb, Alamogordo, N.M., 16 July 1945 has been added to the collection.

The subject files comprise material from Diamond's tenure at Columbia and include some material pertaining to his forced departure from Harvard in the 1950's due to his previous communist affiliation, and his active role in maintaining the efficacy of the Freedom of Information Act. The research files include microfilms and notes.
