Statistics, illustrations, and pamphlets showing the nature and extent of American missionary enterprise in China. Material was collected Oct. 1908 by Arnold as an exhibit for the American Fleet visiting Amoy, Oct. 30-Nov. 5, 1908 to accompany his dispatch no. 77, dated April 29, 1909, to the Department of State. Includes photographs.

James Whitford Bashford was a resident Methodist bishop in Shanghai and Peking, China, and former president of Ohio Wesleyan University. The collection contains diaries which include notes on religion, lands, people, and history of China; and index to the diaries; as well as photographs and collection notes.

Bates, M. Searle (Miner Searle), 1897-1978
Miner Searle Bates taught history at Nanking University 南京大學, was a member of the International Committee for Nanking Safety Zone in the Second Sino-Japanese War, and Professor of Missions at Union Theological Seminary, New York, 1950-1965. The collection contains papers, meeting minutes, articles, reports, and other publications collected or created by Bates regarding missions in 20th century China.

The majority of the collection consists of bound volumes of missionary recordkeeping and statistics, including directories of Protestant missionaries in China, and reports from the National Christian Council of China. Also included are personal correspondence, biographical and autobiographical writings, and clippings from magazines and newspapers.

Cressy, Earl Herbert, 1883-
Earl Herbert Cressy was a missionary to China who worked with the Central China Famine Relief Committee and served as the executive secretary of the Council of Christian Colleges in China and as the associate general secretary of the National Christian Council of China. This collection contains reports and drafts, charts, tabulations, maps, surveys, summaries of data, and other materials related to Cressy's research on Chinese religious institutions, mostly in Hangzhou.

Samuel Dodd was an American United Presbyterian missionary in Ningbo, China and Hangzhou, China; Samuel Thompson Carter Dodd was his eldest son, born in Ningbo, China. The collection contains a copy of Samuel Dodd's 1861-1877 journal typed and with notes by his son, as well as correspondence and photographs.
