Schmitt, Jane E., 1921-

When Jane E. Schmitt (Class of 1943) volunteered for class council in 1991, the Alumni Association provided her with a Class Council Handbook as a resource for planning future events such as her class's 50th reunion in 1993. Schmitt added materials to the binder containing this handbook. The resulting scrapbook includes correspondence between Schmitt, her classmates, and the Alumni Association regarding their 25th, 30th, 45th, 50th, and 55th reunions. It also contains Alumni Association newsletters from the 1990s, as well as newspaper and magazine articles from the 1980s to the early 2000s, some of which are from University publications such as Rochester Review. These articles highlight the achievements of the University and of members of the Class of 1943, and they include obituaries of Schmitt's classmates. The scrapbook also contains photographs of Schmitt and her friends taken in the 1990s, including images from their 50th reunion; photographs of Rush Rhees Library; copies of photographs from the 1940s; poems by Betsy Phillips Fisher (Class of 1943); a copy of the music and lyrics of "The Genesee"; and invitations to University lectures. Also included is a copy of an article from the Rochester Times-Union, published on 10 March 1943, regarding Eleanor Roosevelt's talk at the University of Rochester Women's Campus Assembly and her press conference at George Eastman House.
