David C. Levy records, 1949 - 1992, undated

David Corcos Levy served as dean of Parsons School of Design from 1970 until 1989. The bulk of these records were generated between 1970 and 1984, after the merger of Parsons and the New School for Social Research, and consist of memos, correspondence, reports, and subject files related to Levy's administrative tenure. Correspondents include a range of New School and Parsons administrators, including New School president John R. Everett. Categories and subjects represented herein include developing and implementing new degree programs; the process of merging academic institutions, including the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles; faculty relations and unionization; accreditation; program and department establishment and design; and fundraising activities. Also found here are materials created by the Parsons Board of Trustees and, after the merger, the New School Board of Overseers.

Harry Gideonse records, 1944-1975, bulk 1952-1975

Harry Gideonse served as chancellor of the New School for Social Research (now The New School) from 1966 to 1975. This collection contains administrative material from his time at the New School for Social Research, and from work with other organizations during this period, including Freedom House and City University of New York. Includes correspondence, financial and fundraising documents, curriculum and conference material.

Henry H. Arnhold memory book, 2018

A compilation of notes, correspondence, and photographs depicting philanthropist Henry Arnhold's involvement with and contributions to The New School over the course of almost eight decades. This book was created by the New School Development Office on the occasion of Arnhold's death in 2018.

The Lesley Cadman records were created or received by Lesley Cadman during her term as vice dean of Parsons School of Design. Some records pre-date Cadman's arrival at Parsons.

Malcolm Carter University Communications records, 1975-1989, bulk 1985-1987

Malcolm Carter became director of The New School's university communications in 1985. The Malcolm Carter University Communications records document the three primary areas of activity over which Carter had oversight: advertising and marketing; public relations; and publications. Materials include memoranda, letters, reports, and printed materials, encompassing the range of Carter's activities.

Mannes School of Music Office of the Dean records, 1952-2004, bulk 1988-2002

This collection consists of documents generated and compiled by the office of the dean of the Mannes School of Music at The New School from 1989 to 2004, during the tenures of deans Charles Kaufman and Joel Lester. The documents include reports, publicity information, memoranda, and correspondence. The collection also includes letters of commendation to the Mannes College of Music written by noted musicians in 1958.

Mills College of Education records, 1955-1971, bulk 1960-1969

Collection includes office records from Mills College of Education from the years 1956 to 1972. The institution was a four-year college awarding Bachelors of Education degrees, formerly located at 66 Fifth Avenue in New York City. The college merged with The New School in 1972, and closed in 1975. Materials include correspondence, event and promotional materials, student statistics, memoranda, policies, and minutes.

New School Adult Division Office of the Dean records, 1928-circa 1991, bulk 1959-1979

21.1 Cubic Feet
These records were created by the dean's office of the adult education division of The New School (as of 2022, Schools of Public Engagement), and predominantly reflect the activities of two deans, William Birenbaum and Allen Austill, 1961-1979. A subset of records document the formation of New School College in the 1960s, the Institute for Retired Professionals, and the Physicians Assistant program. A number of files are restricted due to confidentiality.

New School Associates records, 1943-1988

15.4 Cubic Feet
The New School Associates was the first fundraising body associated with the New School for Social Research. Composed of faculty, former students, school administrators and supporters of the school's aims, the Associates sponsored numerous events and an annual membership drive. These records represent the administration of the Associates from the mid-1940s through the 1970s. Art exhibition records extend into the 1980s.
