Scope and Content:
From very early in the organization's history, American Jewish Congress had used member involvement to generate energy and enthusiasm with local activities of the various chapters and branches.Series XI: Regional Chaptershighlights the interaction between the National Office of the American Jewish Congress and its regional officers and chapters. The files are primarily from the Metropolitan Council, but the series also has material from field operation officers and the Midwest, Northeast, and California Chapters of the American Jewish Congress.
Series XI: Regional Chapterscontains correspondence, reports, invitations, and subject files created by the Regional Offices, Officers, and Chapters of the American Jewish Congress. The series has information on membership and finances associated with individual regions or chapters and the interaction between these chapters and the National Office of the American Jewish Congress. The National Commission on Law and Social Action was often dependent on regional offices to keep the National Commission informed on local events, legislation, and litigation happening in their respective area or region. The series features the activities of the regional offices of the Commission on Law and Social Action and their communication with the National Office.
Series XI is arranged alphabetically by regional office and within a region by subject. For Boxes 60-107, please consult the folder name to ensure that the material is relevant to your search. At the end of Series XI, there are audiovisual materials, produced by the various regional chapters, including audiocassettes and videocassettes.
