Records, 1938-1972, of the Alpha Nu Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Pi Lambda Theta is a national honorary and professional association for women in education. The local chapter was organized as the "Women's Honorary Education Society of the University of Buffalo" in 1938 under the guidance of Dr. Adelle H. Land. In 1940, it was installed as the Alpha Nu Chapter of Pi Lambda Theta. The records include correspondence, membership directories, financial reports, minutes, newsletters of the local chapter, copies of the journal of the Pi Lambda Theta, Educational Horizons, The History of Alpha Nu Chapter edited by Ethel H. Bennett in 1972, and other items documenting the history of Pi Lambda Theta. Of particular interest for University of Buffalo history is a 1939 report compiled by the Women's Educational Honorary Society on the "Cooperative Youth Groups." The Cooperative Youth Groups were begun in 1936 by the School of Education at the University of Buffalo as an experiment to meet the needs of area school students.
