Adaline's diary, kept from August 1840 - March 1843, when she was in her early twenties, reveals an intelligent and lively young woman, whose ambitions were challenged by her era's gender conventions, as well as the debilitating effects of tuberculosis. The diary not only captures the hopes and faith of Adaline, the intimacies of the Lindsley family, and community life in her Yates County, New York village in the early 1840s, it also documents a unique period of growth and transition in ante-bellum America.

The collection consists of lectures, correspondence, working papers, publications, sermons, liturgies, professional awards and other related materials from the files of Ada María Isasi-Díaz. The materials in this collection span much of her professional career as an activist and theologian. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and publications from her work with women's organizations, manuscripts of lectures and articles, syllabi and teaching notes and conference materials. Also included are personal correspondence, audio- and videotapes, and clippings from magazines and newspapers.

The Adam Clark Works Papers contain correspondence from his family and friends. Also included are diaries belonging to Adam Clark Works, his first wife, Mrs. Elida I. (Van Sickle) Works, his second wife, Mrs. Ellen (Mihill) Works, his daughter, Ruth Elida Works, and his brother, George Washington William Works. The collection also contains memorabilia, photographs and a china figurine, "Three O'Clock in the Morning." The bulk of his papers are from the 1860's. The family correspondence includes letters from his mother, Mrs. Julia (Coolidge) Works Crouch, his brothers, George Washington William Works, Robert Miller Works, Obadiah Works, his halfbrothers, James Chesterfield Crouch, Benjamin F. Crouch, and his uncle, George Griswold, who raised him after his father, George W. Works, died in 1839. The collection includes courtship and marriage letters, from both wives of Adam Clark Works. His first wife, Elida, died in 1869 after a prolonged illness. Her letters are filled with descriptive detail concerning methods of medical treatment at the Castile Water Cure Sanatorium in 1868. Adam Clark Works' in-laws, Mary and Henry C. C. Van Sickel (or Van Sickle), referred to as "Ma" and "Pa," and the Rev. Norris and Mellissa (Lamson) Mihill (or Mihills) carried on an extensive correspondence with him. The sisters of his second wife, Ellen, Mrs. Emma (Mihill) Marsh and Mrs. Caroline (Mihill) Lengfeld also wrote often. Adam Clark Works' correspondence also includes letters from many friends. Several were from former students and teaching acquaintances. The Rev. Herbert Franklin Fisk, President of Genesee Wesleyan Seminary (1868-72) and Principal of the Preparatory School at Northwestern University wrote frequently. Another close friend that he corresponded with throughout his adult life was James M. Hodge, a professor of natural science at Fort Edward Collegiate Institute, Fort Edward, N.Y. and later a partner in Ogelsby and Hodge, Plumbers, Gas & Steam Fitters of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also corresponded with Joel Dorman Steele (1836-1886), author of several scientific and historical books. Of special interest are the letters from Robert H. Skinner, which give a detailed account of the Civil War from his enlistment in the 77th Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers, Company D, from November 7, 1861 until his release on March 12, 1863. Lt. Skinner's letters describe his company's march to Washington, the camp conditions, Army supplies, military engagements, medical treatment of the wounded, and the attitude of the men toward the war.

The Mappa Papers include 47 letters, 1778-1833 and undated, the majority being for the period 1789-1795. Almost all are in Dutch, with the rest in French. The correspondence is both personal, and pertaining to the business of the Holland Land Co., particularly in the Boonville and Oldenbarneveldt (Trenton) areas of Oneida County, N. Y.

The ADAM International Review Papers contain records from the University of Rochester's affiliation with the literary magazine ADAM. These materials date from 1968 to 1973. The papers also include photocopied manuscripts that the magazine's founder-editor, Miron Grindea, donated to the University. The collection is organized into five series: 1) correspondence, 2) distribution, 3) finances, 4) publicity, and 5) manuscripts.

This collection was assembled in anticipation of the store’s 100th anniversary in 1967. It consists mainly of promotional materials, including newspaper inserts, merchandise catalogs, and advertisements. There are also several books and some sheet music published by the store; clippings, 1867-1981; a scrapbook documenting the downtown move, 1960; and some photographs of AM&A’s stores and employees.

Papers of Adam Pavlovich Benningsen and his wife Feofanii︠a︡ Vladimirovna Benningsen. This collection contains a substantial number of letters which Adam Benningsen wrote to his wife while serving with the White armies in South Russia during 1919-1921. The bulk of the collection consists of manuscripts by Adam Benningsen: a lengthy memoir of his service in the Tsar's army in World War I and in the White armies in the Civil War; diaries and draft memoirs relating to the same period; memoirs of the fall of France in 1940 and of his own imprisonment, apparently by the Germans, during World War II; and two short manuscripts containing theological reflections. A short memoir of the Revolution by Feofanii︠a︡ Benningsen ("Iz zapisok grafini F. V. Benningsen," 1917)., a collection of White Army poems and songs, and a hand-produced satirical journal emanating from the White Army's camp at Gallipoli (1921) complete the collection. The Adams Ropewalk collection contains a typescript history of the company up until 1932, a 1957 6-page Insurance Survey of [the] Property of Mr. Guy P. Adams with photographs of the Ropeworks and office building, newspaper clippings that document a roof collapse in 1958, and 22 b&w photos that document the exterior and interior of the ropeworks, its machinery, and employees.

John Addoms (also spelled Addams), 1737-1823,served as a surveyor and civil engineer in the American Revolution and quickly rose to the rank of major. After his service in the Revolution, John Addoms moved to Plattsburgh and built a farm on Cumberland Head. Mr. John Townsend Addoms, 1781-1868. J. T. Addoms (son of John Addoms, 1737-1823) was a well-known Methodist Episcopal minister. He and his wife, Harriet Young were deeply involved in the early temperance movement. Mr. Addoms was an early and outspoken leader of the movement. The majority of the documents (correspondences, diaries, journals, school compositions, etc.) in the Addoms’ Family Papers are those of Reverend J. T. Addoms and his family. Also included in the collection are documents involving deaths among Reverend Addoms’ congregation. Many of the miscellaneous materials in the collection concern death and dying in the form of poems, obituary scrapbooks, various memorials, and religious literature. The collection contains two letters from the War of 1812 and eight letters from the Civil War era.

The Adele Gerhard (1938-1965) Papers include hand-corrected typescripts, photocopies and clippings of essays, a collection of clippings about Cologne-born novelist Gerhard and reviews.

Collection consists of Adele Mowton DuBreuil's diploma from the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (now, Parsons School of Design) in advertising display, a black and white photographic portrait of her after graduation, and 24 small, black and white photographic prints depicting her student graphic design work, 1917-1919. Most of the designs are advertisements for consumer goods; two are World War One propaganda posters.

The Arthur Doak Barnett Papers consist of personal and professional documents created and amassed by a leading scholar and government advisor on United States-China policy and relations in the 20th century. Barnett wrote, co-authored, or edited more than 20 books on China and Asia. His papers chronicle his academic, reporting, and government careers, plus his writings and travels throughout Asia and China from the 1940s through the 1990s.

Field notebook for RPI's Junior Class Hydrographic and Topographic Survey, kept by Adolph Kohlhofer, Class of 1912. The notebook includes sketches of surveys, tide gage readings, level notes, notes on the Hudson River, various computations, and related information. Kohlhofer also listed the surnames of other students who worked on both surveys with him.

Included are excerpts from the book The Real Mrs. Miniver, a biography of Dolt's first wife the renowned author Jan Struther, written by her granddaughter Ysenda Maxtone Graham. A chapter in the book about Dolt's stay in London after he left Vienna makes reference to his poetry. Dolt's play Henry V as well as his short novel Traumfardt Mit Der Familie ("Dream-Journey With The Family") are translated from their original German by my father Paul Stern, Dolt's lifelong friend and brother-in-law; (in 1951,Dolt's sister Susan and Paul were married). Paul's career as a translator included working with Pulitzer Prize winning poet W.D. Snodgrass on Gallows Songs as well as with Maurice Sendak and Lore Segal on their book The Juniper Tree and other Tales From Grimm.

This bound manuscript "Adol'f Lazarev: Zhizn' i Poznanie" begins with an introduction by Nikolaĭ Berdi︠a︡ev, and then presents copies of articles by Lazarev on such topics as the philosophy of William James and on Lev Shestov. There are also copies of several letters exchanged by Lazarev and Shestov in the period 1926-1936. The name of the compiler of this manuscript is not given.
