Rochester Family Papers, 1788-1881, 1812-1881

The Rochester Family Papers span the years 1788 to 1881 and include deeds, correspondence, receipts, and bills belonging to members of the Rochester family. Of special note is a piece of Sophia Rochester's wedding dinner dress underskirt. The collection also includes Col. Nathaniel Rochester's 1831 handwritten will, an inventory of his estate, and deeds and indentures regarding his many land dealings. A copy of Rochester's 1830 will is also included.

Rochester Female Charitable Society papers, 1822-1997

The material is arranged in four series in chronological order within the series. The first series consists of correspondence, manuscript annual reports, and the monthly minutes. The minute books until about 1859 also contain lists of dues collected and visiting districts. The second series consists of records of relief in money and goods given or lent out, and reports by district visitors. The third series consists of financial records, including the treasurers' accounts, the records of income from dues, annual sermons and special events, and the minutes and records of the trustees' investment accounts. The final series contains miscellaneous histories of the society, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks and printed ephemera. The following inventory is arranged by subject. The bound volumes and boxed material on the same subject, therefore, are listed together.

Rochester feminist collection, circa 1970-1986

The collection is comprised of two series: Activism and Printed Materials. The series Activism contains materials from the Speak- Out conference organized by the Genesee Region Women's group on June 4, 1977. Issue packets such as economic and health rights provide documentation of the later phase of the Second Wave feminism movement. The second series includes fliers and pamphlets regarding the campaign for the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s, which was never ratified, as well as reproductive rights campaigns and lesbian rights issues. One of the most significant group of materials in this collection document reactions in the city of Rochester and surrounding towns, when in June of 1986, activist Nikki Craft bared her breasts during a woman's rights rally in Cobb's Hill. Coverage of the rally, letters to the editor and editorials represent a wide spectrum of local opinions regarding women's rights.

Rochester Friendly Home papers, 1849-1933

The collection consists of minutes of the Board of Managers' meetings, which cover the periods 1849 to 1866 and 1872 to 1917, minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees from 1871 to 1933, records of the operation of the Home from 1849 to 1912, the minutes of the Good Will Club from January, 1920 to April, 1921, and the records of the Building Committee, which from 1915 to 1921 oversaw the construction of the building on East Avenue in which the Home is presently located.

Rochester Gas & Electric lantern slides, 1932-1960s

The Rochester Gas & Electric lantern slide collection consists of nineteen boxes containing approximately 500 glass lantern slides with photographs taken by RG&E from approximately 1932 to some time in the 1960s. A twentieth box includes black and white photos and newspaper clippings. The images have not yet been fully described.

Rochester Gas and Electric Collection, 1863-1998

This collection consists of the records of the Rochester New York based gas and electric company, RG&E (Rochester Gas and Electric). The materials date between 1860 and 1998, with a bulk of the materials dated between 1905 and 1970. The collection consists of photographs, correspondence, administrative documents, diagrams, and maps.

Rochester Licensed Drug Clerks Association Collection, 1873-1905

The Rochester Licensed Drug Clerks Association was established in 1885 as a professional organization for licensed pharmacists in the city of Rochester, New York. Materials in the collection include letters and documents related to the foundation of the organization, the organization's first minute book, and a notebook recording druggists who operated in Rochester between 1873 and 1905 (including tipped-in labels). The collection dates between 1873 and 1905.

Rochester Municipal Archives Deposit, 1827-1934

The Rochester Municipal Archives Deposit consists of materials on deposit with the Local History & Genealogy Division of the Rochester Public Library by the Rochester Municipal Archives. As such, these materials have not been accessioned by the Rochester Public Library; the library provides them with an appropriate preservation environment and access point. The deposit consists of fragile ledger books containing records from multiple City of Rochester departments, including the Fire Department, City Court, Board of Health and Bureau of Police. They range from court dockets to meeting minutes, with the single largest component of the deposit consisting of record books from early fire companies. Materials in the deposit date between 1827 and 1934, with the bulk dating from the 19th century.
