Penfield Library Archives and Special Collections Department is at the heart of teaching and learning at SUNY Oswego. The College Archives was established to preserve, maintain and foster an appreciation of the history and enduring value of SUNY Oswego. The Archives is comprised of historical records and documents of administrators, Departments, faculty, staff and students. Special Collections' local history collection includes material that focuses on the historical, political and cultural heritage of Oswego County or the surrounding Central New York region.

This collection contains posters, fliers, memos, notes, postcards, and other paper advertisements distributed in Tyler Hall for events from 1964 to 1995. The majority of the advertising is for art exhibits, music concerts, and theatrical events. There is also material on fundraisers, educational opportunities, Oswego's open house events and parents weekends, Quest, and student organizations, among others.

Powell, Thomas F.
The collection contains Civil War letters and papers, material about the toll road from Watertown to Watertown Center, and miscellaneous legal and business papers from the Watertown, N.Y. area. The most significant piece of the collection are the Xeroxed copies of letters from Benny F. Murfitt, who was a sergeant in the 150th New York Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War. His recollections focus on the series of battles outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Stephen L. Weber worked to enhance faculty development, foster diversity and intercultural competence, make the campus more self-sufficient, improve service to the community, and enrich the natural and cultural environment of the campus. Weber saw the continued expansion of student numbers and academic offerings -- spearheading the creation the School of Business and the current version of the School of Education in 1992 from the Division of Professional Studies.

Stowell, Shubal W.
The diary consists of transcripts of daily activities during Stowell's voyage west across the American continent. Mentions flooding in the Missouri River in the spring of 1850, the community of Great Salt Lake, and numerous other sites he encountered during his voyage. He also discusses his failure to "make it rich" and his return to Oswego by sea.

Also, the history of Sheldon Hall, from 1983 -1997, which covers the leasing and the renovation of Sheldon Hall to " Historic Renovations, Inc. "
