The Rockefeller Archive Center is a repository of historical materials and a research center dedicated to the study of philanthropy and the many domains touched by American foundations, individual donors, and the civil society organizations they support. It was established in 1974 initially to gather, preserve, and make accessible the records of the Rockefeller family and their far-reaching philanthropic endeavors, such as the Rockefeller Foundation, and Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The Archive Center today holds the archives of major foundations, cultural organizations, research institutions, and many individuals associated with these organizations.

This collection documents Stacy May's career as an economist and more particularly, as an economic consultant and advisor to the Rockefeller family. It includes personal letters, correspondence, papers, speeches, reports, bound reports, and publications.

Taconic Foundation

The Taconic Foundation was in its own words, "a fairly small foundation trying to address some very big problems." Founded in 1958 by philanthropists Stephen and Audrey Currier, the Taconic Foundation worked consistently during its fifty-five-year existence to combat social inequities and promote equality of opportunity. Under Stephen Currier's lead, Taconic was at the forefront in organizing support for the civil rights movement and seeking solutions to the urban crisis. Initial program areas focused on race relations, mental health, and child development. Later programs evolved to focus on families and youth, educational innovation, community organizing, housing and neighborhood development, and youth employment.

Arts, Education, and Americans Panel

The records of the ACAE as received by the Rockefeller Archive Center are incomplete. Activities prior to 1974, including the Arts/Worth Program, are not intended to be documented in this collection. The records focus sharply upon the activities of the Arts, Education and Americans Panel, the preparation and issuance of its report, "Coming to Our Senses," and supporting research. Correspondence after 1977 deals almost exclusively with the distribution of the Panel report.

The Trilateral Commission (North America)

The objective of the Trilateral Commission is to foster discussion and cooperation among the core democratic industrialized areas of the world. David Rockefeller defined the Commission's primary focus as bringing "the best brains in the world to bear on the problems of the future."8

Trust for Mutual Understanding

This collection contains reports, correspondence, audiovisual materials (videos, CDs, photographs and negatives), and publications. The collection contains materials about Eastern European Art organizations and the evnironmental groups which were promoted through grants made by the Trust for Mutual Understanding. Grants were made directly to the Eastern European institutions or American institutions who were working in collaboration with an Eastern European organization.

Union Tank Car (Firm)

The Union Tank Car Company records date from 1889-1978. The records as received by the Rockefeller Archive Center are incomplete. The records, which include correspondence, memoranda, clippings, pamphlets, reports, financial and legal materials, and blueprints, only partially document the company's activities.

Worthley, Wallace F.

During the course of his employment with the Rockefeller family, Mr. Worthley wrote lengthy letters to his family in Illinois, describing the Rockefeller boys' and his daily activities as well as the general environment in which he worked and lived for three summers.
