Collection

The collection consists of two series: General Correspondence and Subject Files. Correspondence is mostly that of Annette Gardner Munro, who was Dean of Freshman and later the first Dean of Women at the University of Rochester. There is also correspondence of Katherine Bowen, Registrar of the College for Women, and other administrators. General correspondence relates to topics such as student applications and requirements for admission. It includes letters between Dean Munro and high schools regarding students' courses, grades, and recommendations; letters notifying students whether they have been accepted to the University; and letters in which students already enrolled inquire about courses and requirements for various degree programs. Additional correspondence with students relates to topics such as reserving rooms, certificate programs, scholarships, and tutoring. There are letters from alumnae applying to graduate school who request catalogs, lists of courses they have taken, and transcripts as well as some letters with correspondents outside the University community that discuss possible memberships and jobs for students. Subject Files contain mimeographed material and correspondence on topics ranging from alumnae associations, to nursing, to student government.

Materials include photographs of various graduating classes, Class Day programs, theater programs, Young Women's Christian Association (Y.W.C.A.) booklets and programs, and luncheon and annual banquet booklets. The collection also includes various newspaper articles about the College for Women that relate to topics such as faculty, the basketball team, Commencement, and graduating classes. Some articles are photocopies. The collection also contains scrapbooks created by students. They consist of newspaper articles, programs from various events, and personal mementos. The scrapbooks are no longer bound.

Collection

This collection contains vocational questionnaires sent to, and returned by, alumnae of the College for Women from the Class of 1930 through the Class of 1961, and related materials. In addition to asking women graduates about their occupational history, these mailings included questions about women's interests and hobbies, marriage and family, place of residence, studies pursued after leaving the University of Rochester, how well they felt college prepared them for the future, and which courses they would recommend. They date from 1929 to 1962. The collection is subdivided into three series: 1) the vocational questionnaires themselves, 2) administrative material relating to them, and 3) analyses.
