Abzug, Bella S., 1920-1998

Congressional papers consisting of correspondence memoranda, speeches, reports, photographs and printed materials relating to her terms in Congress. The collection contains general correspondence and administrative files, as well as extensive subject files on a wide variety of topics with which Abzug was involved while in Congress. Also included are Legislative files, being the chronological files of background material for legislation considered on the House floor, and printed versions of legislation by Abzug and others. The Casework Files, relating to Abzug's advocacy on behalf of constituents involved in civil rights, housing, military, employment and related cases, are closed. Among the major correspondents are Carl Albert, Abraham D. Beame, Hugh L. Carey, Gerald R. Ford, Edward I. Koch, John V. Lindsay, Nelson A. Rockefeller, and Gloria Steinem. Materials added in 1981 include: draft transcripts of an oral history, appointment books, speeches and subject files (particularly on privacy and freedom of information) all interfiled in the collection and campaign materials press releases and newspaper clippings.

Cerf, Bennett, 1898-1971

Correspondence, manuscripts, memorabilia, photographs, phonograph and tape recordings, and printed files. Included are Cerf's personal correspondence files, 1929-1945, and the diaries and scrapbooks which he maintained from his school days throughout his active career. The diaries, in date-book format, contain terse notes on Cerf's meetings with authors and friends, on his travels and publishing activities; the scrapbooks contain correspondence and photographs, as well as memorabilia and printed items, and were annotated by Cerf and his wife, Phyllis Fraser Cerf Wagner. Also in the collection are manuscripts and proofs for Cerf's books including "The Laugh's on Me""Treasury of Atrocious Puns""The Sound of Laughter""Stories to Make You Feel Better", and "At Random: the Reminiscences of Bennett Cerf", which was edited by Phyllis Cerf Wagner and Albert Erskine, 1977. The papers also include condolence letters written at the time of Cerf's death, photographs and photo albums,certificates and awards, and miscellaneous printed material, including Random House and Modern Library catalogues. The collection is primarily correspondence files, both personal and professional, along with book reviews, awards and diplomas, letters of condolence on his death, clippings, and correspondence, manuscripts and printed materials relating to THE STREAM OF HISTORY. The correspondence relates specifically to the third edition. The manuscripts are typed and holograph inserts for the third edition and possibly for the second edition as well. Among the manuscripts are twenty-two notebooks containing holograph notes and drafts of chapters. The printed material consists of one copy of THE STREAM OF HISTORY, 1934 edition.

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, subject files, photographs, a sound tape, and printed materials. There are many letters from Anton Kartashev; other correspondents include Mikhaĭl Karpovich, Philip Mosely, and Vasiliĭ Zenḱovskiĭ. There are manuscripts by Kartashev, Karpovich, and George Vernadsky, as well as by Novit︠s︡kiĭ himself on the Orthodox Church and the emigration. Subject files touch on his organizational activities. There are photographs of Novit︠s︡kiĭ with Dwight Eisenhower, Nelson Rockefeller, and Jacob Javits, and also of Zenḱovskiĭ. The sound tape is an interview with Novit︠s︡kiĭ on Voice of America about his father-in-law, Georgiĭ Shavelśkiĭ. Some of the materials concern Novit︠s︡kiĭ's brother, Evgeniĭ, and wife, Marii︠a︡.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, notes, photographs, transcripts of historical documents, and printed materials. Larson's correspondence consists of professional correspondence relating to historical research; his work at the United States National Archives, including correspondence with Philip Hamer while preparing a special survey of archival materials in the U.S. Virgin Islands under a Works Progress Administration grant, 1936-1937; genealogical research; and personal correspondence with family and friends. Manuscripts by Larson relate to Alexander Hamilton, Bjørnson, Bjørnstjerne, Danish National Archives, archival research in the U. S. Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Army activities in Korea and in the Virgin Islands.

The files contain much material of the League of Women Voters of New York State as well, and some material pertaining to the national organization. The files document the League's activities in the areas of voter registration, election reform, New York City government, foreign policy, ecology, and numerous other concerns, and contain the records of city, state, and national conventions, annual reports, and Board and Council minutes. ROVS North America (ROVS-N.A.) Records consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, organizational records, subject files, and printed materials. There are also papers of the Paris-based Sovet Rossiiskogo Zarubezhnogo Voinstva (Council of the Russian Military Abroad) and other emigre military and political organizations active in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and South America. The cataloged correspondence includes letters by Evgenii Miller, Nikolai Tsurikov, Aleksandr Kutepov and other emigre figures and by Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Barry Goldwater and other prominent American politicians. Arranged correspondence series consist of general office files, Paris-New York files, correspondence of Aleksei von Lampe and Vladimir Vitkovskii and topical correspondence files. Among the manuscripts are short articles and reminiscences by various people. There are photographs of Evgenii Miller, Nicholas II and of emigre organizational gatherings during the 1950s and 1960s. The organizational records include circulars, bulletins, orders, memoranda, reports, publications and financial records for ROVS and the Sovet Rossiiskogo Zarubezhnogo Voinstva. Subject files concern such topics as the Elisavetgrad Military Academy, the Union of the First Kuban Campaign, the Gallipoli societies, the Ingermanlandskii Regiment and the Russian Anti-Communist Center in New York. The printed materials include a book by Boris Kuznetsov and publications and circulars from other emigre organizations.

Fuld, Stanley H., 1903-2003

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, memorabilia, and printed materials. Correspondence is both professional and personal, relating primarily to Fuld's duties in the New York District Attorney's Office, as a judge in the state and federal courts, and to his civic work for the Jewish Theological Seminary, the City College of New York, New York University, and the Columbia University Law School. Major correspondents include: Thomas E. Dewey, Louis Finkelstein, Herbert Lehman, and Nelson A. Rockefeller. The rest of the collection consists of Fuld's briefs, opinions, memoranda, forms of indictments, appeals cases, reports for the New York State Court of Appeals from his appointment in 1946 through 1973, and manuscripts of his speeches and lectures. The memoranda series deals chiefly with investigations into organized crime. In addition there are biographical materials, memorabilia, and photographs.

Correspondence, notes, articles, reports, and speeches of Gildersleeve, including materials relating to the United Nations Conference in San Francisco, 1945, the Dumbarton Oaks Conference, the International Federation of University Women, the American Association of University Women, the American Council on Education, and the Near East College Association. The most note-worthy item in the collection is a letter from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, appointing Dean Gildersleeve to serve as a member of the U.S. Delegation to the Charter Conference of the United Nations. The collection also contains some material relating to Barnard College affairs.

The V. K. Wellington Koo papers document the diplomatic legacy of Wellington Koo as a Chinese statesman and diplomat of the 20th Century. The papers primarily consist of materials collected during Koo's diplomatic career, relating to the Lytton Commission, 1932-1933; the League of Nations, 1931-1940; the United Nations, 1944-1946; his ambassadorships to France, 1932-1941; to Britain, 1941-1946; to the United States, 1946-1956; as the Senior Advisor to the Republic of China from 1956; and as the Judge on the International Court of Justice, 1957-1966. The materials include correspondence, diaries, memoranda, manuscripts, documents, notes, speeches, maps, photographs, printed material, and audio visual material. The bulk of the materials emphasizes China's domestic and foreign affairs, such as the Sino-Japanese conflict, World War II and the Cold War in the Far East region, as well as the League of Nations and the United Nations.
