Vera List Center for Art and Politics
The Vera List Center for Art and Politics is a research institute affiliated with The New School that supports artists, hosts events, organizes exhibitions, and publishes books focused on culture and politics. The Vera List Center records include program files containing planning documents and promotional material, as well as publication and administrative files.

Parsons School of Design. Communication Design Department
Mounted posters from the exhibition, "Unity and Diversity: a selection of posters from the Communication Design Department at Parsons School of Design," created by junior-year Communication Design students at Parsons. Thirty posters were chosen for the exhibition out of 180 entries submitted to a poster competition held by the Communications Design Department on the theme of "diversity, the underlying theme of the American Republic" in 1994.

The New School Graduate Faculty established the East and Central Europe Program in 1990, expanding to become the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies (TCDS) in 1997, to foster dialogue on democratic theory and practice in East and Central Europe, Central America and southern Africa, among other regions. The collection documents the center's events, seminars, workshops, and conferences. Also includes research and course files of TCDS founder, Elzbieta Matynia.

Williams, Tracyann
Records of Tracyann Williams, PhD, who served as director of Academic Affairs for the Bachelor's Program for Adult and Transfer Students (BPATS) in The New School's Schools of Public Engagement until she left the university in early 2020. Includes documentation on the Diversity Committee and the Diversity Task Force, the Gender Studies program, the Faculty Senate, and Students of the African Diaspora, for whom Williams was a faculty advisor.

New School for Social Research (New York, N.Y. : 1919-1997)
The Schools of Public Engagement was formed in 2011 with the reorganization of the New School for General Studies. As of 2016, the division consisted of: the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students (BPATS); the School of Languages; the School of Media Studies; the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy; and the Creative Writing Program. The collection also holds the 1991-2008 records of the World Policy Institute. Dating largely from the 1990s until 2014, these records contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, budget and financial material, and faculty and personnel files relating to the administration and governance of the Schools of Public Engagement and their predecessor programs, departments, and schools. New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music
The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music was established at The New School in 1986 and, as of 2020, is a department within the College of Performing Arts. These records, largely compiled by former dean Martin Mueller, cover the School of Jazz from its inception to Mueller's retirement in 2016. Includes audiovisual recordings, budget and fundraising records, clippings, correspondence, photographs, publicity materials, and reports and studies. The International Association of Schools of Jazz of which Mueller was a founding member is also well documented in the records.

The Laurance S. Rockefeller General Files were created and maintained by the staff of the Rockefeller family office, Room 5600, Rockefeller Center, New York City. The records predominantly document Laurance S. Rockefeller's 1992-1996 activities in the areas of Art, Conservation, Education, Medicine, Politics, Science, Welfare and Youth Organizations. The records also document a selection of Mary French Rockefeller's charitable giving, 1996-1997.

Rockefeller Brothers Fund

The records of the West Africa Program include correspondence from the New York and Lagos offices, memoranda, reports, administrative and financial materials, personnel correspondence, and a complete set of feasibility studies contracted by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The bulk of this material dates between 1957 and 1963, the period during which the Lagos office was in full operation.

The records of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Special Studies Project document the administrative and intellectual history of the project. The Special Studies Project collection constitutes a rich, but by no means comprehensive, source for the intellectual history of American domestic and foreign policy from 1945 to approximately 1960. Papers and criticisms of papers were contributed to the Project by leading academic and government authorities. Although an examination of these materials will not normally show the development over time of a writer's ideas, some files include a writer's older pieces. The papers prepared for the Special Studies Project are invariably thorough expositions of the contributor's views in the late 1950s.

Kirkbride, Robert
The records in this collection, dating from 1985-2013, document Parsons School of Design faculty member Robert Kirkbride's involvement in faculty bodies and reviews of academic programs at The New School, primarily between 2004 and 2013, including his role as faculty advisor on the design and construction of the New School University Center at 65 Fifth Avenue. Also represented are materials documenting Kirkbride's participation in the curriculum review of various Parsons undergraduate programs and events and exhibitions in Parsons' Product Design Department.

The records of the Population Council document its day-to-day operation as an organization that, among other activities, evaluated and administered grants, sponsored conferences of scholars in the field of family planning and demography, and provided advice to individuals, private institutions, and governments concerned with population. There is some material relating to major policy decisions of the Council. There are also letters and reports from scientists involved in medical research and from Council staff members and representatives involved in family planning activities abroad.

A collection of 4 x 5 inch color transparencies of work probably created 1970 through 1975 by Parsons School of Design students in the Communication Design, Environmental Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration, General Illustration, and Graphic Design departments, including work that was exhibited in end of year shows and annual Society of Illustrators Scholarship Competitions.

This collection consists predominantly of 35 mm slides of work by students in courses that comprised Parsons School of Design's first year program, formerly known as the Foundation Year Program, between 1975 and 2004. Some of the slides are associated with the course in which the work was created: 3D and 2D Design, Drawing Fundamentals, Drawing Concepts, and Digital Design. Also includes some course materials and color photocopies of student work.

The Parsons School of Design Master of Arts Design Studies program was established to encourage the study of design as a transdisciplinary discipline with the goal of preparing students to become active agents of social change. The collection consists of physical and electronic files documenting the program's development and planning, and reporting on its progress, as well as syllabi and video recordings of a 2014 symposium.

The Parsons School of Design Alumni Association was incorporated in 1952 and continued until Parsons School of Design merged into the New School for Social Research in 1970. Also includes documents generated by earlier alumni associations that the Alumni Association incorporated into its working files.

The School of Media Studies began as the Center for Understanding Media. Accredited through Antioch College, the program offered courses through the New School for Social Research. The New School formally absorbed Media Studies in 1975, after a four-year partnership. The records consist of curricula vitae, files, reports, syllabi, posters and other printed publicity materials, and student work.

The School of Drama, the dramatic arts program of The New School's College of Performing Arts, grew out of an affiliation with the Actors Studio initiated in the 1990s. This record group primarily documents student performances in the form of publicity materials, such as posters, postcards, fliers, and other print formats advertising individual productions and seasons. The record group also contains numerous clippings and printouts of online reviews. Video documentation of performances spans 1997 through 2002, while print records cover academic years up through 2018.

This collection largely documents the activities of the New School Publicity Office during the 1940s and 1950s, and reflects the range of activities of the department under the leadership of Agnes De Lima, who directed the department for two decades. The collection includes notes and draft materials for the production of press releases, articles in the weekly New School Bulletin, advertisements and course promotion, and administrative materials. Also includes materials related to the organization of art exhibitions and special events, and transcripts of radio announcements and speeches. The Dramatic Workshop, École Libre des Hautes Études and Graduate Faculty series in this collection are especially rich in describing the work of these important New School programs.

The files in this record group cover the second year of its existence as the Distance Instruction for Adult Learning (DIAL) program through 2008. The three series within this collection represent the activities of the office responsible for fundraising and alumni relations at The New School in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly with regard to special events. Materials include invitations and announcements for award, sponsor and trustee dinners, dedications, and alumni receptions, as well as planning memoranda, post-event reports, lists of attendee and board prospects, and year-end wrap-ups. The records appear to have been maintained by directors Marvin Rich and Kevin McMahon and associate director Michael Janiak, and by manager of Special Events, Linda Palmieri, and associate director of Development for Parsons School of Design, Alfred Szymanski.

This record group consists of video recordings, clippings, publicity samples, advertising materials, and topical office files, which include a large number of press releases, created by George Calderaro in his capacity as director of publicity for what is, as of 2019, The New School's Schools of Public Engagement. Calderaro led the New School Communications Office (later subsumed into the Marketing and Communications unit), from 1995 to 2005.

This collection consists of records of the undergraduate gender studies minor program at The New School, covering roughly the time the gender studies minor was discussed in committee at the university in 2006 to the end of Miriam Ticktin's directorship in 2014, the last year comprehensively documented. This record group documents the activities of the New School's Communications and External Affairs (CEA) office, one of the university's largest administrative units. CEA was the successor administrative unit to the New School Publicity Office, and the New School Communications Office, respectively. The bulk of materials here date from the late 1990s through 2013, and includes digital photographs, printed publicity samples, posters, and project files consisting of analog and digital records from the Design and Publications Office of CEA. The New School Associates was the first fundraising body associated with the New School for Social Research. Composed of faculty, former students, school administrators and supporters of the school's aims, the Associates sponsored numerous events and an annual membership drive. These records represent the administration of the Associates from the mid-1940s through the 1970s. Art exhibition records extend into the 1980s.

This collection consists of records relating to the administration and programming of the New School Art Collection from 1987 to 2003, primarily during the tenure of Kathy Goncharov, who curated the collection from 1987 to 2000. The New School Art Collection was formally established in 1960 through a donation from Albert and Vera List.

The New School Art Center was established in 1960 with a donation from the Albert J. List Foundation, and remained in operation until 1973. Directed by Paul Mocsanyi, the Center reflected The New School's commitment to engage provocative subjects, using art to explore contemporary issues. The collection contains sound recordings of events sponsored by the Art Center, often in conjunction with an exhibition or as part of educational programming.

This collection contains documentation of The New School Archives, established in 2012, and its predecessor, the Kellen Design Archives (also known as the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Archives Center). Wendy Scheir became director of the Archives in 2008, taking over from Xenophon T. Barber. The records cover both directorships and relate to Archives exhibitions, publicity, collecting, preservation, strategic planning, and grant applications. Also included are photographs of the Archives space and staff.

These records were created by the dean's office of the adult education division of The New School (as of 2022, Schools of Public Engagement), and predominantly reflect the activities of two deans, William Birenbaum and Allen Austill, 1961-1979. A subset of records document the formation of New School College in the 1960s, the Institute for Retired Professionals, and the Physicians Assistant program. A number of files are restricted due to confidentiality.

The collection documents the Near East Foundation (1930-2003, bulk 1940s-1980s), focusing on its international development and technical assistance programs at the country and local community levels. Its focus on developing problem-solving civil society organizations, international relations, vocational training and sustainable international development, compliments many of the RAC collections, and tells an important philanthropic story of a region of the world not particularly well represented by other RAC holdings.
