Waters, Samuel Stephenson

This scrapbook, kept by Samuel S. Waters (RPI Class of 1917) contains newspaper clippings, grade cards, tuition receipts, and photographs from Waters' time as a student at Rensselaer. Some of the photos show Waters surveying for an engineering class, the Push Ball Rush, and Waters with various friends. Also included in the scrapbook are Selective Services cards, typed poetry from famous writers, such as Rudyard Kipling, and newspaper clippings related to military service during World War I.

Villnow
This collection consists of photographs taken by a member or members of the Villnow family of Rochester, New York. The photographs consist of 114 glass plate negatives, containing images of family, friends and Rochester, New York-area scences. The images are dated from 1910 and 1911.

William Merritt Chase established Parsons School of Design in 1896 as the Chase School of Art. The name of the school changed to the New York School of Art in 1902, and to the New York School of Fine and Applied Art in 1909. This charter documents the 1909 name change. In 1940, the school was renamed Parsons School of Design in honor of former President Frank Alvah Parsons and to differentiate it from other, similarly named institutions.

Ubsdell, John A.

This item is a student notebook of John A. Ubsdell, RPI Class of 1889. The notebook was titled, "Notes on Adjustment and Use of Instruments," after a course given by David M. Greene, who was a Director and Academic Head of Rensselaer. Topics in the notebook include scientific instrument use, mathematic formulas and equations, level measurements, and figure drawings of how to use certain instruments, such as transits.
