Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell became the first female doctor in the United States in 1849 through the Geneva Medical College.
A signed letter from geologist Ebenezer Emmons, RPI Class of 1826, to a potential assistant on the Geographical and Agricultural survey of North Carolina. The letter discusses the politics of appointing an assistant and the nomination of Dr. Thompkins.

This item is a letter to RPI student, Edward Root Kellogg, Class of 1841, from his father, regarding a request for money while at Rensselaer, dated June 27, 1840. Edward asked his father for twenty five dollars, and in the letter, his father says that he's sent twenty six dollars for him.
