A collection of literature and music produced for the use of U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. Included are paperbound reprints of popular fiction, popular classics, poetry, and other books of general interest, specially manufactured for distribution to American soldiers and sailors overseas and to soldiers in the army hospitals in the United States. The music includes song books, army field manuals for bands, camp show books and a set of ARMY HIT KIT OF POPULAR SONGS, June 1943-April 1944. Also includes a selection of sheet music of popular songs with a war or patriotic theme. 1985 addition: a few samples of war poetry, humor, battle accounts and memorabilia

A.P. Watt (Firm)

Mostly testimonial letters from satisfied clients of A.P. Watt, praising his services. Many of the letters were published in promotional brochures. Two of these books, COLLECTION OF LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT BY VARIOUS WRITERS (London, 1893) & LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT (London, 1894), are included in the collection. There were other editions published in 1889, 1898, 1899, 1924, 1929, etc.

Auden, W. H. (Wystan Hugh), 1907-1973

Manuscripts, galley proofs, and page proofs of W.H. Auden's COLLECTED SHORTER POEMS 1927-1957 (Faber and Faber, 1966) all of which contain his corrections in ink. The manuscript of the book is comprised of typewritten and printed pages, which taken together are a mock-up of the entire book. There are also galley proofs and page proofs.

Letters, manuscripts, galley proofs, page proofs, art works, and printed materials of Auden, including three postcards to Geoffrey Grigson, one of which relates to galley proofs for Auden's poems included in THE YEAR'S POETRY, 1937. There are manuscripts, galley proofs, and page proofs of COLLECTED SHORTER POEMS 1927-1957 (Faber and Faber, 1966) all of which contain his corrections in ink. The manuscript of the book is comprised of typewritten and printed pages, which taken together are a mock-up of the entire book. Also, a pencil sketch of Auden by Terry Durham, a silkscreen portrait by Meyer F. Lieberman, and a portrait head cast by Olaf de Wett. There is also the manuscript and proofs of MARKINGS by Dag Hammarskjöld, translated from the Swedish by Leif Sjöberg and W.H. Auden; the libretto and score of PAUL BUNYAN by Auden and Britten; five letters from Auden to Norman Loftis criticizing Loftis' poetry; two letters from Auden to Patrick Anthony Lawlor; and four letters from Auden to Olive Mangeot.

The collection includes correspondence from Konstantin Balḿont, Nikolaĭ Evreĭnov, Zinaida Gippius, Georgiĭ Grebenshchikov, Vasiliĭ Maklakov, Sergeĭ Potresov and Nadezhda Teffi. There is one letter each from Boris Bakhmeteff, Vera Bunina, Aleksandr Grechaninov, Aleksandr Kuprin and Alekseĭ Tolstoĭ. The manuscripts include poems and a play scenario by Nadezhda Teffi as well as Roshchina-Insarova's autobiographical essays and article about Sergeĭ Lifar.́ In addition, there are three scrapbooks containing clippings and programs of Roshchina-Insarova's performances, and approximately 40 photographs of her.
