Girs, A. F. (Alekseĭ Fedorovich), 1871-1958

One letter, manuscripts, and printed materials of Aleksei Fedorovich Girs and of his wife, Liubov' Aleksandrovna Girs. The letter, dated 1914, when Girs was governor of Minsk, is addressed to N. A. Maklakov. Aleksei Gir's memoirs cover such topics as his service in Estland; Petr Stolypin; the "Jewish question;" Tsar Nicholas II; and independent Estonia, where he lived in 1918-1924. There are also two reports by Girs from the time of his service in Minsk. ́Liubov Girs is represented chiefly by diaries from 1901-1918, particularly on Odessa in 1905-1906; Stolypin's murder in 1911; and Nizhny Novgorod in 1917. Among the printed materials are announcements of Gir's accession to the Minsk governorship in 1914-1915.

I︠A︡khontov, Arkadiĭ Nikolaevich, 1878-1938

The papers consist of correspondence and notes. The correspondence is made up of letters to I︠A︡khontov concerning his memoirs about the Council of Ministers from pre-revolutionary officials, including Vladimir Kokovt︠s︡ev, Pavel Ignatév, and Vsevolod Shakhovskoĭ. The notes are minutes taken at the meetings of the Council of Ministers; these exist as both the original handwritten notes and as typed copies. Finally, there is a brief memoir by I︠A︡khontov concerning World War I, and a printed copy of the announcement by Nicholas II that World War I had been declared.

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, subject files, questionnaires, photographs, and printed materials. Cataloged correspondents are Ilín, Anton Denikin, Ivan Shmelev, Boris Zaĭt︠s︡ev, and Kirill Zaĭt︠s︡ev. Correspondence primarily concerns the Russian embassy in Stockholm through 1920 and the Russian Christian Labor Movement (1931-1940). Manuscripts are mostly by Ivan Ilín on anti-Communist topics. Subject files generally concern conferences of the Russian Christian Labor Movement, and also contain information on the Conference Economique des Allies a Paris (1916), the Russian embassy in Stockholm, and Witte's visit to Norway in 1894. Questionnaires, photographs and printed materials mostly deal with the Russian Christian Labor movement. Printed materials contain issues 7-91 of the periodical "Novy put"́ of the Bureau of Russian Christian Workers. The great majority of this collection concerns the Russian Christian Labor Movement.

Included are Gershun's manuscript memoirs, entitled "Vospominanii︠a︡ russkogo advokata" (843 p.), covering the 1890s to 1918; manuscripts and typescript of a work entitled "Essai sur la Profession dʹAdvocat"; a letter; two printed items which concern Gershun, and some newspaper clippings.

Li︠u︡bimov, Dmitrīĭ Nikolaevich, 1863-1942

Papers of Dmitrii Nikolaevich Liubimov, consisting of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials. Correspondents include Vasilii Maklakov and Boris Zaitsev, and there is a document signed by Boris Savinkov. Manuscripts include Liubimov's memoirs of his years in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "Russkaia smuta nachala deviatisotykh godov (1902-1906)", and others by him on many topics, often based on his personal experiences. Liubimov scrapbooks from the emigration include notes and clippings on various topics. There are materials relating to the activities of his wife, Liudmila Ivanovna, as representative of the Russian Red Cross in Poland in 1919-1922, including correspondence and a photograph album.

Kovarskiĭ, Ilʹi︠a︡ Nikolaevich, 1880-1962

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials. Cataloged correspondents in the collection include letters from prominent figures, including Mark Aldanov, Mark Vishniak, and others. Among the manuscripts are A. Argunov's, "Iz perezhitogo," on Russian socialists in 1914-1917; a report by Kovarskii read to the Society of Russian Doctors in France, 1940 (Obshechestvo Russkikh Vrachei im. Mechnikova); and items on Soviet themes by Mark Vishniak, dated 1965-67. There is a photograph of Il'ia Fondaminskii, of Aleksandr Kerenskii, and of members of the Russian Constituent Assembly in France, 1922. One subject file concerns the death of Vladimir Zenzinov. Printed materials include catalogs and book lists from "Rodnik."

Vasilʹchikov, Illarīon Sergi︠e︡evich, 1881-1969

Correspondence, manuscripts, a photograph and printed materials of Illarion Sergeevich Vasil'chikov. The catalogued materials consist of a copy of a letter to Vasil'chikov from B. E. Nold́e, and a copy of a poem dedicated to Vasil'chikov by A. A. Otsup, i.e., Sergei Gornyi. The manuscripts, all of which are by Vasil'chikov, are autobiographical in nature. They concern his service in the Imperial Senate (including a 1908 senatorial inspection tour of Turkestan), his participation in the Duma, his work with the Red Cross in 1917, and his membership in the All-Russian Orthodox Church Council of 1917. There are also essays about his family genealogy. The collection includes excerpts and clippings from various sources describing the Vasil'chikov family.

Loris-Melikov, Iosif Grigorʹevich, 1872-1948

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, subject files, photographs, and printed materials. Cataloged correspondents are Mikhail Girs, Robert R. McCormick, Isidor Singer, and Stanley Washburn. Much of the material, including correspondence, reports, and printed materials, concerns German and Russian propaganda in the Japanese War; Russian diplomacy in the first two decades of the century; and Civil War, especially in Siberia. Printed materials include Imperial government publications and also publications of the White government in Omsk.

Mili︠u︡kov, P. N. (Pavel Nikolaevich), 1859-1943

There are letters from fellow historians, such as John Franklin Jameson and Aleksandr Lappo-Danilevskiĭ; Kadet Party leaders, including Vladimir D. Nabokov and Nikolaĭ Astrov; and others such as Boris Bakhmeteff, Charles Crane, Vladimir Jabotinsky, Louis Marshall, Thomas Masaryk, and Nikolaĭ Roerich. A large correspondence series consists of letters and petitions sent to Miliukov during the Third State Duma (1907-12). Manuscripts include Mili︠u︡kov's memoirs, and his notebooks from the period of the Civil War. There is also a manuscript by Isaak Shkovskiĭ (pseudonym -- Dioneo) on Russian writers and journalists during World War I. Subject files deal with the State Duma, the Civil War, and the emigration.

Correspondence in the collection includes 1 item from Ivan Bunin, 2 from Vladimir Davydov, and many from G. A. Alekseev. Mendeleev's extensive memoirs, "Svet i teni v moei zhizni," discuss his childhood and youth, government service, World War I, the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War, and life in the emigration up to 1933. Subject files in this collection concern the Prague Russian Archive, the Union of the Russian Nobility, the Russian Imperial family in the emigration, and other topics. Printed materials include an almost complete set of the weekly "Parizhskii Vestnik" (1942-1944).
