Rush Rhees Library Addition Material includes correspondence, specifications, notes, and other documentation related to the planning, design, and construction of the 1970 addition. A thick folder of proposals, cost estimates, and correspondence relating to the renovations made to Rush Rhees Library in 1971-72 can be found in Box 6. Box 7 contains a scrapbook compiled by Augusta Hoeing, widow of Professor Charles Hoeing, who had donated $25,000 for a garden court in memory of her father, Calvin C. Laney, Rochester's first superintendent of parks.

Bergel, Lienhard, 1905-1987

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, printed material, and memorabilia. The cataloged correspondence is with Jacques Barzun, Benedetto Croce, Elena Croce, Wallace Fowlie, Thomas Mann, Salvatore Quasimodo, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and René Wellek. There is manuscript material relating to the Bergel-Hauptman case and a number of Bergel's own essays and reviews. A copy of Bergel's German passport is included, as well as numerous family photographs and miscellaneous printed material. There is a cataloged photograph of Hugo von Hofmannsthal; and a gold Benedetto Croce centennial medal.

Smith, Theodore Schuyler, 1894-1966

The Lieutenant Theodore Schuyler Smith Papers consists of one series: Correspondence. The majority of the letters in the collection date from May 15, 1917-September 14, 1918. Several of the letters are undated, but are presumed to fall within this date range. Items include: 24 letters written by Theodore Schuyler Smith to his mother, Mrs. Theodore J. Smith; 8 letters written to his father, Theodore J. Smith; 3 letters written to his brother Sidney S. Smith; 1 letter written to his sister-in-law Mrs. Dora Smith, wife of Sidney Smith; and 1 letter written to his Aunt, Mrs. H. H. Schieffelin, also of Geneva, New York. There is also 1 postcard, and one letter composed using cuttings from newspaper and magazine headlines.

Russell, Lillian, 1861-1922

The Lillian Russell Papers are comprised of one box containing nine folders of correspondence, notes, ephemera, and a photograph of Lillian Russell. The collection consists of letters written by Lillian Russell and Edward Solomon to Constance DuFlon, chiefly during the 1885-1886 tour, which deal with the daily occurrences and conditions of a touring company. There are also letters to Constance DuFlon from Fred Solomon, the company buffoon, Fanny Davenport and Jesse Millward.

The Lionel McKenzie Papers document McKenzie's career as an Economic Professor. The majority of the materials in the collection are letters written to and from McKenzie. There are also materials that document his committee and society work. A third body of materials consists of department meetings and faculty recruitment.
