Liveright, A. A. (Alexander Albert), 1907-1969
Alexander A. Liveright was a professor of adult education and director of the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) for more than ten years. Correspondence, minutes and reports which highlight Liveright’s professional interests and affiliations. Included are papers generated while professor in the schools of education at Boston University and Syracuse University, as director of The Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults, and as founding member and Secretary of the International Congress of University Adult Education. Sagamore Conference papers and those of the New Institutional Forms Project, a research project begun by Liveright to study the development of comprehensive adult education programs, also appear in the collection. International adult education is the focus of records from trips to Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Thailand. Miscellaneous material includes newspaper clippings, War Manpower Commission documents, and material from the Highlander Folk School.

Association of University Evening Colleges (U.S.)
The Association of University Evening Colleges (AUEC) was formerly (until 1939) the Association of Deans and Directors of University Evening Colleges; in 1973 it became the Association of Continuing Higher Education. AUEC's purpose was to study the problems of the evening college and to encourage mutual interchange and stimulation of ideas among members. The papers of the AUEC consist of minutes of committees, convention records; general correspondence; enrollment statistics; history, including six phono-tapes of oral interviews with staff members; newsletters, including press releases and copy; personnel records, including vitae and correspondence; regional meeting reports; and statistical reports of the AUEC. Major correspondents include members of the Executive Committee, editors of AUEC publications, and various education organizations. Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults
Established by a grant from the Fund for Adult Education in 1951, the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) worked with universities seeking to initiate or to improve adult education programs. Its purpose was to help American higher education develop greater effectiveness and a deeper sense of responsibility for the liberal education of adults. During its tenure the Center had three directors; John S. Diekhoff (1952-1953), John B. Schwertman (1953-1956), and A.A. Liveright (1956-1968). The records include correspondence, organizational files, publication files, writings, and miscellany. Key correspondents, mostly from the Center, are James T. Carey, Alexander N. The strength of the records is in its documentation of New York State politics and elections (including the State Legislature and other state offices), the Conservative Party's political endorsements and candidates (including writer William F. Buckley, Jr., and Senator James Buckley), and the political goals and ideological positions on contemporary and 20th century issues.

The Correctional Association of New York Records includes records from the Board of Directors, annual reports, prison visit files, Narcotics Committee files, program and bureau files, project files, subject files, and publications. Established as the Emmanuel Church of the Evangelical Association in 1870 when the Reverend J. Vossler (Evangelical Association) was sent to Binghamton, N.Y., in response to the request of the people. After Feb. 1970, the name changed to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church; the church closed officially May 1976. Collection includes business files including, minutes of board meetings (in German) (1890-1899), trustees (1939-1940); Sunday school reports (in German) (1880-1910), and those of other internal governing bodies (1880-1976); financial records include cancelled checks, budget reports, and treasurers records (1914-1977).

Papers of the American painter, humanitarian. The collection includes artwork reproductions, correspondence subject files, memorabilia and writings, much of which deal with Weston's work in various organizations, including the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society, the American Federation of Arts, the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors, Food for Freedom, the International Association of the Plastic Arts of Plastic Arts, the National Council on the Arts and Government and the United Nations. The collection provides a detailed look at the lobbying efforts to create the National Endowment for the Arts as well as development of post-World War Two international cooperation in the arts.

Hunsaker, Herbert Cason, 1891-
Hunsaker was involved in adult education for over sixty years. Papers include brochures, clippings, correspondence, memoranda, pamphlets, reports, speeches, audiorecordings of interviews, and materials related to Hunsaker's thesis. Best represented are the dissertation materials, his international activities with World Education, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UNESCO, and his activities related to professional conferences and seminars. Of interest are the papers related to his China and Middle East tours. Significant correspondents include Rewi Allen, George E. Davis, Thomas B. Keehn, Paul Sheats, and Hunsaker's family. Among the personal papers are those concerning Hermann H. Field, for whom Hunsaker acted as absentee executor.

The Institutes of Religion and Health was formed by the merger of the Academy of Religion and Mental Health, and the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry, with its Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute. The merger combined the resources of two long established and widely known interfaith, interracial, interdisciplinary, nonprofit, tax-exempt agencies serving human health and well-being.
