Zimmermann, Frederick, 1906-1967

A collection of letters written to Zimmermann. Most of the letters relate to a group of German artists called "Der Blaue Reiter" ("The Blue Rider"). Zimmermann assisted in the planning for the exhibition of the group, held at the Curt Valentin Gallery, December 7, 1954-January 8, 1955, and much of the correspondence relates to the exhibition. Included are letters from Albert Bloch, David Burliuk, Mrs. Nina Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Gabriele Münter. Also, important files of correspondence from John B. Flamagan and George Grosz.

Enfield, Jill
This collection consists of a portfolio of wet collodion portraits of new immigrants to the United States by fine arts photographer Jill Enfield. The portfolio forms a part of Enfield's The New Americans series, and originated as a year-long project funded by a Faculty Development Grant from Parsons. Enfield's grant statements are also part of the collection.

New School Art Center (New York, N.Y.)
The New School Art Center was established in 1960 with a donation from the Albert J. List Foundation, and remained in operation until around 1977. Directed by Paul Mocsanyi, the Center reflected the New School's commitment to engage provocative subjects, using art to explore contemporary political and social issues. Mocsanyi's files also document the founding of the Collectors Institute, an organization for private collectors established in 1973. Materials include exhibition catalogs, artist files, press coverage, posters, fliers and other publicity, administrative correspondence, and photographs, as well as the files of Paul Mocsanyi.

The New School Art Collection
This collection consists of records relating to the administration and programming of the New School Art Collection from 1987 to 2003, primarily during the tenure of Kathy Goncharov, who curated the collection from 1987 to 2000. The New School Art Collection was formally established in 1960 through a donation from Albert and Vera List.

New School for Social Research (New York, N.Y. : 1919-1997). New School Associates
The New School Associates was the first fundraising body associated with the New School for Social Research. Composed of faculty, former students, school administrators and supporters of the school's aims, the Associates sponsored numerous events and an annual membership drive. These records represent the administration of the Associates from the mid-1940s through the 1970s. Art exhibition records extend into the 1980s.

Pineles, Cipe, 1908-1991
This record group documents the activities of the New School's Communications and External Affairs (CEA) office, one of the university's largest administrative units. CEA was the successor administrative unit to the New School Publicity Office, and the New School Communications Office, respectively. The bulk of materials here date from the late 1990s through 2013, and includes digital photographs, printed publicity samples, posters, and project files consisting of analog and digital records from the Design and Publications Office of CEA. Access is being provided to this partially processed record group. In the absence of a collection guide, please consult with an archivist for further details. This collection contains press releases issued by The New School (formerly, the New School for Social Research) over a three-decade span. The press releases provide a detailed accounting of courses, events, faculty appointments, and the addition of new programs and divisions at the university, including announcements related to Parsons School of Design following its affiliation with The New School in 1970.

This collection largely documents the activities of the New School Publicity Office during the 1940s and 1950s, and reflects the range of activities of the department under the leadership of Agnes De Lima, who directed the department for two decades. The collection includes notes and draft materials for the production of press releases, articles in the weekly New School Bulletin, advertisements and course promotion, and administrative materials. Also includes materials related to the organization of art exhibitions and special events, and transcripts of radio announcements and speeches. The Dramatic Workshop, École Libre des Hautes Études and Graduate Faculty series in this collection are especially rich in describing the work of these important New School programs.
