The Edward J. Coughlin Papers includes a large collection of personal correspondence between his wife and daughter, greeting cards, scrapbooks and US Veteran letters. The Senator’s wife and daughter resided in Saratoga Springs through most of Edward Coughlin’s years in State Assembly and as New York State Senate 1923-1944.

Scope and Content:

The collection contains the personal correspondence, letters, greeting cards and postal telegraphs between Edward J. Coughlin and his wife: Minnie Bauman Coughlin and his daughter ‘Honey” Anna Coughlin, during their life in Saratoga Springs, NY. The correspondence and black and white family photos are housed in two boxes and in folder series of subject and date. This collection also includes scrapbooks and the personal diary including newspaper clippings by Minnie Bauman Coughlin dating 1912-1927.

Biographical / Historical:

Edward J. Coughlin, was born July 25, 1885. Died October 10, 1945 at Veterans Hospital in the Bronx. Edward was born Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; civil engineer; Democrat, and member of New York State Assembly from Kings County 11th District, 1923-34; member of New York State Senate 6th District, 1935-44.
