Scope and Content:

This collection consists mainly of advertisements in the early 2000s, ephemera, and ledgers of the store.

Biographical / Historical:

SA Gilbert’s Jewelers opened in 1907 and closed in 2012, residing in 310 Exchange Street for this entire time. Silas A Gilbert, a hand engraver and watchmaker, originally joined with another jewelry business that had been at 310 Exchange Street since 1880. Frank Gilbert worked in the business before opening his own store in Newark NY, Gilbert’s Jewelers. Bill and Ed Gilbert continued on in the Geneva location until Mickey Gilbert Schultz (father is Frank, grandfather Silas) bought out the business from her uncles in 2000 and continued until 2012 upon her retirement.

The collection came to us from Mickey Gilbert Schultz at the time of her retirement in 2012.
