Background

Scope and Content:

Sixty-nine images of various locations around New York City and Brooklyn, 8 of Buffalo, 4 of Rochester, 3 each of Saratoga Springs and West Point, and the remaining 24 of New York State's cities and towns such as Albany, Lowville, Newburg, and Unadilla.

The images are all mounted on sturdy card stock and labeled with town, date, description, and source, if appropriate. Media include: prints removed from books such as Picturesque America and periodicals such as “Harper’s New Monthly;” lithographs; post cards; b&w sepia-toned, and hand colored photographs; and stereoscopic view cards.

The collection is arranged by city/town then chronologically.

Biographical / Historical:

Images were collected by the Historical Society that were out of the Society's collecting scope. They were donated to the library in September 2000.
