Scope and Content:

This collection contains items formerly belonging to Antoinette Vacchiano, who was a nurse at Community General Hospital in Syracuse. The collection has three series.

Printed Materials: this series contains diplomas, nursing licenses, and newspaper articles about Antoinette.

Textiles: this series includes the nursing cape and cap that Antoinette wore.

Photographs: this series includes one portrait of Antoinette in her nursing uniform when she graduated.

Biographical / Historical:

Antoinette “Toni” (Martino) Vacchiano was born in Auburn, NY in 1924. She lived in Syracuse for most of her life and graduated from the school of nursing at Community General Hospital in 1946. She also worked at Community General and later married Dominick Vacchiano. Antoinette later worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Syracuse where she eventually retired. She passed away in September of 2011 at the age of 87.
