Dating from 1899 to 1912, this collection contains correspondence, their enclosed materials, and other miscellaneous, likely once-enclosed, materials relating to the personal and professional business of Hinsdill Parsons, Esq.. Additional materials include contracts, company reports, dividend statements, receipts, notes, and trustee information. Significant correspondence exists between Parsons and Willis T. Hanson, president of the Union National Bank in Schenectady, NY., Ledyard Cogswell, president of the New York State National Bank in Albany, NY, and C. A. Coffin, president of the General Electric Company.

Biographical / Historical:

Born on February 10, 1864 in Hoosick Falls, New York, Hinsdill Parsons, Esq. attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, graduating in 1884, and then Albany Law School, graduating and gaining admittance to the New York State Bar in 1885. In 1889, Parsons married Jessie Mary Burchard. Parsons worked as a patent attorney in Hoosick Falls initially, then becoming General Counsel for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York in 1894. From May 1901 until his death in a car accident on April 28th, 1912, Parsons worked as the head of General Electric’s legal affairs, as well as the vice-president of the company. Series 1: Correspondence Series 2: Misc. Enclosed Materials There is too much overlap in subject, sender, addressee, etc. to create any greater divisions than between correspondence and misc. enclosed materials. Enclosed materials and enclosing letters that can still be identified as belonging together are filed chronologically by the date of the enclosing letter in the Correspondence series. All other materials are filed chronologically in the Misc. Enclosed Materials series. Series 1: Correspondence is contained in folders 1-17. Series 2: Mic. Enclosed Materials is contained in folders 18-21. Cross-references to any oversized materials are filed in chronological order among the materials. Oversized materials are found in Box 1, Folder 22. Copies of acidic papers are filed as if they are originals. Original acidic papers are filed in Box 1, Folder 23.
