Collection of material created and compiled by Ettore Mancuso, a lawyer, newspaper editor, and prominent citizen of the city of Schenectady. The items in this collection consist largely of copies of newspaper clippings. They primarily relate to his interest in politics and government in the 1940s through the 1960’s. A large number of articles follow the career of Mayor, then Congressman Sam Stratton. The collection also contains letters, speeches, booklets and other items relating to Mr. Mancuso’s involvement in the Republican Party and Schenectady politics. Also included are a small number of folders related to his legal practice and personal life.

Biographical / Historical:

Ettore Mancuso was a prominent lawyer, newspaper editor, and political leader in Schenectady. He was born in Italy on January 23, 1896. Having come to the United States at the age of 12, he became a naturalized citizen in 1919. He was a graduate of Catskill High School and Albany Law School. Mr. Mancuso served in the U.S. Army from 1918-1920. He married Jan Mauro and had three children.

For many years Mr. Mancuso maintained a law office at 158 Jay St. He served as corporation counsel to Mayor J. Ward White from 1932-1933. He was employed by NY State in the field of municipal finance from 1944-1966. Mr. Mancuso was an active leader of the Republican Party. He died on Jan 20, 1979.
