Scope and Content:

This collection includes: 1) Bulletins, reports, maps and informational booklets and brochures pertaining to Ground Water Supplies and Quality Studies and The Great Flats Aquifer. 2) Mining Pit surveys, impact statements, articles and letters pertaining to the environmental issue of gravel mining, specifically that of Bonded Concrete. 3) Descriptive Booklets of the canals, lakes, rivers and wetlands of New York State and the Region 4) Letters and informational lists written by Vincent Schaefer regarding environmental and historical value of the Great Flats area.

Biographical / Historical:

Carl J. George is a Union College Biology Professor Emeritus (retired as of 2/2008). He received his PhD from Harvard University in 1960. Research interests: Ecology and Natural History of Aquatic (including marine) Habitats with special reference to birds, fishes and other vertebrates; role of graphics in science; early natural history of the Americas.
