Scope and Content:

The collection includes a 79-page typescript reminiscence, entitled "Gratification!" which recounts his work as Secretary of the Typographical Union, and various related drafts; a small amount of financial and personal correspondence; and several biographical newspaper articles.

Biographical / Historical:

Julius J. Loos (1898-1993) of Rochester, New York was a printer by profession and served as Secretary of the Rochester Typographical Union Number 15 from 1936 to 1959 and then as Deputy Industrial Commissioner in the New York State Department of Labor from 1959 to 1963.

RESTRICTIONS:

The Julius J. Loos Papers is open for research use. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Collections & Preservation Department prior to visiting. Upon arrival, researchers will also be asked to fill out a registration form and provide photo identification.

In consultation with a curator, reproductions may be made upon request. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from a curator. Researchers are responsible for determining any copyright questions.
