Scope and Content:

During the course of his employment with the Rockefeller family, Mr. Worthley wrote lengthy letters to his family in Illinois, describing the Rockefeller boys' and his daily activities as well as the general environment in which he worked and lived for three summers.

Biographical / Historical:

Wallace F. Worthley was a University of Chicago student who was hired by John D. Rockefeller Jr. to be a summer tutor and companion for his four oldest sons: John 3rd, Nelson, Laurance, and Winthrop. Mr. Worthley worked with the family over the course of three summers at their homes in Pocantico Hills, New York, and Bar Harbor, Maine.
