Biographical / Historical:

Leo M. Favrot was born August 31, 1874, in West Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Tulane in 1894 with a B.S. degree and from George Peabody College for Teachers with an M.A. in 1922.

After graduation from Tulane, Favrot was first a teacher, then a high school principal and later a parish school superintendent in Louisiana. From 1910-1912, he was State High School Supervisor for Louisiana. Favrot's two major interests were rural and Negro education, so in 1913 he took a position as State Agent for Negro Schools in Arkansas, and from 1916-1923 performed that same task for the Louisiana Department of Education. Favrot became a field agent for the General Education Board in 1923.

Apart from his services in education in this country, Favrot also participated in education on an international scale. President Hoover appointed him to a commission to study education in Haiti in 1932. In 1936 he participated in a conference on education in Pacific Countries and in 1937 in the New Education Fellowship Conference.

After his retirement from the General Education Board in 1939, Favrot was a part-time lecturer in the School of Education and the Department of Sociology of Louisiana State University.

Leo M. Favrot died in 1949.
