Scope and Content:

Manuscripts and related materials on the siege of Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese War, collected by Boris Ivanovich Bok. Included are diaries and memoirs by Russian participants in the siege: Dmitrii Grigor'evich Androsov (Diary), Oskar Fabianovich Berg (Memoirs), Vladimir Ferdinandovich Berg (Memoirs), Aleksandr Viktorovich Fok ("Zametki"), Nikolai Viktorovich Ienish (Memoirs), Aleksei Mikhailovich Iuzefovich (Memoirs), Vladimir Nikoalevich Nikitin (Diary), Aleksandr Apollonovich Vorob'ev (Memoirs). Some of the memoirs and diaries were published in: "Port-Arthur, Vospominaniia uchastnikov" (New York, 1955).

Other materials from the period 1904-1907 - correspondence, reports, minutes of an investigating commission - were collected by General Vladimir Nikolaevich Nikitin concerning the investigation into the siege.

Biographical / Historical:

Boris Ivanovich von Bok (1879-1955), naval officer, captain of the 1st rank, naval attaché at the Russian embassies in Berlin and the Netherlands; district leader of the nobility of the Shavlyai district, Vilna province. In emigration in the USA. President of the Port Arthur Anniversary Committee in San Francisco. Died in San Francisco, buried in Serbian Orthodox Cemetery, San Francisco.
