Background

Scope and Content:

Maryshev's handwritten memoirs (200 p.) deal with his childhood and education as well as his later experiences. There are also materials relating to his work in the Russian Orthodox Church in Western Europe after the war.

Biographical / Historical:

Maryshev was a lawyer who worked in various positions in the USSR, including the Ukrainian sugar industry in the 1920s and 1930s. He was later arrested and sentenced to a labor camp. During World War II he lived in Vinnit︠s︡a, and then went to Germany, first as an Ostarbeiter and then as a displaced person.
