Scope and Content:

: Two letters, dated December 21, 1932 and January 5, 1933, from De Schweinitz to John M. Wheeler, Director of the Harkness Eye Institute at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and professor of ophthalmology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In them, De Schweinitz discusses Wheeler’s participation in a “Cataract Night” to be held at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.

Biographical / Historical:

Ophthalmologist. De Schweinitz practiced in Philadelphia where he also served on the faculties of Jefferson Medical College, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Medicine. He was the author of Textbook of Diseases of the Eye (1892) which went through many editions.
